  • They should all get the Erik Williams helmet for safety... and double stack those shoulder pads.

  • I appreciate the enthusiasm, but as an older dude, I'd rather we just accept the commitment, be thankful, and let the play on the field say all we need to say. No need to go all Buckeye and boast about the unknown future.. We haven't won a title in 7 years. Let's win that first, mmmmK?

Closely following recruiting has become a game within a game to a lot of fans. It seems like some people are so passionate about it that they get more excited when we land a big time recruit then when we win a game on the field. I know that excitement usually stems from the fact that a big time recruit should equal positive results on the playing field, but it seems like recruiting has become an end unto itself to some fans. Which when you think about it, is kind of wierd. But it's easy to get sucked into the hype.

  • Call me the human wet blanket. I'm cool with that. I can take it.

I just like to think we're better than that. Domers get some of the top recruits in the country on a fairly regular basis (even though they leave a year later, but whatever lol) yet they've been "returning to glory" since 1987. I don't ever want to be like them.

We're getting good recruits and we all expect it to pay huge dividends. But until the scoreboard shows 0:00 at the Rose Bowl with us on top, I'd rather walk softly and carry a big stick.

You lost all credibility when you compared us to Domers. Shame on you.

  • well due is 100 percent correct. however, it is summer, and there are no games being played at the moment. So the battles we win today can be celebrated, although none of it will matter when fall comes. But we are all here because we are recruitniks and we love following recruiting. ive watched it closely for 14 years, so while I agree its all about the football games in fall, we are here to celebrate how well we are doing. lets hope it translates to success on the field.

  • Ohio may have recruited some great DEs but Michigan's DTs are going to be the best in the B1G. It's not even close.

  • I like to think of it this way - OSU recruits amazing DEs, we counter with some of the best tackles in the nation. We recruit incredible DTs and...well, you know the rest.

  • Threads like these remind of how cocky Ohio fans were when Mike Brewster, Mike Adams, and JB Shugarts (of the class of 2008) committed to Tressel.

You'll have to keep in mind that Ohio fans watched Florida's DL and then LSU's DL overwhelm Ohio's OL in back-2-back BCS Championship games.

Ohio fans believed that the trio of 5 stars (according to scout's rankings) would be able to persevere against any DLine.

Ohio fans were even predicting more future Championship game berths.

As we now know, the players fell short of expectations and a Tressel team never reached another BCS Championship game.

I want to use Michael Brewster, in particular, as an example:
    - On Scout, Brewster was listed at 6'5" and 300 pounds. He was ranked the #1 C (a 5 star) and the #23 ranked player overall in the class of 2008.
    - On rivals, Brewster was listed at 6'6" and 305 pounds. He was ranked the #4 OT (a 5 star) and the #12 player overall in the class of 2008.

Now here's what's interesting to me:
    1. Brewster's actual height is 6'2" and his weight is 312 pounds (according to the NFL combine). Did Brewster magically lose 3-4 inches? What's more...Ohio has him listed at 6'5" on its site.
    2. Brewster went undrafted as did fellow OLineman JB Shugarts. Only Adams was drafted (by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the late 2nd round).

    So what's my point?

    It's simple. Tone it down.

It's cool to be confident. But threads like these show a disappointing lack of understanding. If anything, it is short-sighted. I know that fans are fanatical but please be reasonably modest.

Jim Bollman's incompetence as OSU OL coach is well known. He was terrible.

  • What's all the pessism? We have the number 1 class in the country, and 5/4 stars have a higer chance of being good and we're stacked with them.

We had a class full of seniors who were ranked #5 in the pre-season and supposed to compete for a national title. Instead, they became the laughing stock of college football by becoming the only ranked BCS team to ever lose to a Division 1AA team....AT HOME!

S*** happens, man. You just never know. I'd rather Sparty and Buckeye talk all the crap they can. We have a job to do and I'd rather we just take care of business and celebrate after a Rose Bowl victory.

But that's just me. Old man Due, rainin on the kid's parade.lol

    +1.

    Sure. I know.

Also, Michigan has a NFL rep for being historically good/consistent at producing successful OLinemen. It's partly a product of the "Michigan system" since the days of Bo.

But my point is that confidence is much preferable to cockiness.

    Again, I know.

Producing OLinemen has consistently been a strong suit of the Michigan program.

But let's be confident and not cocky about it. That's all I'm saying.
