David Dawson Parts Ways

    No. and No.

He lied to the coaches and went behind their backs. He's done.

I agree with this if things really are as portrayed. It's hard to foster a family environment with someone you don't trust in the fold.

Having said that, I must admit that I still have some doubts about the story. There seems to be such a tight lid on what coaches can say about recruits. I find it somewhat hard to believe that something this damaging came out in such a way that it was verifiable.

I can't find it now, but he was complaining about not getting enough recognition from Michigan fans/commits at the Opening, and Bosch called him out on his whiny BS.

    upvotes for Bosch!

Maybe if he was actually "commited" he would receive love lol

It's been put out there from people with contacts on both sides (UM and FLA) that he was scheduling the visits to Florida and no showing. A guy that I've never seen post false info was the one that said he heard Dawson made efforts to re-commit.

Wish the coaches would have let him back in if he tried. Didn't actually take any visits and might really want to be a Wolverine and just wanted a free trip to Florida.

Maybe if David doesn't commit to anyone before signing day and we have room available we call him back up and take him back if he wants to?

Not gonna happen. Considering the coaches not only don't consider him a commit anymore, but actually completely pulled his scholarship offer, Dawson effectively burned that bridge.

  • The more I read about this the more i get frustrated!!

I have 2 teenage boys and sometimes its hard for them to listen to anyone other than the buddies ( same as Dawson I believe) .

At first When I heard this story I was upset and was like "see ya punk" , but the more I think about it the more I am wondering if its the Whole "peer pressure" thing.

His boy is committed to Florida and is calling him everyday and tweeting him all the time about come to Florida and so on. It doesn't surprise me at all that he wants to visit or go down there and check things out. But as a father its frustrating to see and hear of a kid knowing the consequences of talking to other coaches, recruits , making plans behind coaches backs and still doing it.

I believe that there is more to this story than we are all getting , he maybe getting bad advice from other authority figures , friends so on and so forth.

Long and short of it is this... Michigan will be great when it comes down to it. Dawson will be another recruit we let slip through our hands and a top player in the country and all be ok.
Its crappy how things play out but like I always tell me boys " It is what it is"

Good luck to David in whatever future he has and GO BLUE!!

Just FYI, it's "peer pressure", not "pure pressure."

Also, while I completely understand that friends can have a big influence, I don't think Cam Dillard would have more of an influence than JD Lewis, Shane Morris, and the rest of Team134. I think David has just legitimately wanted to check out Florida for a long time, and as things moved on, he just wanted more and more to be at Florida, but he dragged his feet about actually making up his mind.

Thanks for the spelling correction, and if I am not mistaken isn't Dillard his best friend? I thought I read that someplace, but may have mistaken that.. If he is then Dillard would have more pull then the others. IMO of course.

Oh, if that's the case, that's a different matter. I thought they just knew each other from playing football against each other for years.

  • I'm still new to this recruiting thing so I have a couple of questions for you guys. I understand Hoke's policy on taking visits after a verbal has been given and completely agree. Is Cam Dillard Good enough to make Florida's roster and remain on the team or is it possible that he gets cut in his first year or two? 2) If he gets cut and Dawson doesn't want to stay at florida would Hoke allow him to transfer back to Michigan? I know these are big ifs and it's also assuming Dawson is just following his friend to florida. thanks.

  • Dawson just likes the SEC ....

    1. Cam Dillard is definitely good enough to stick on the Florida roster. Even if he doesn't start, he'll be good depth.

    2. Michigan rarely ever takes transfers or JUCO recruits. In a case like this, I don't think Dawson will leave Florida, and I don't think Hoke would take him back.

  • I'm just glad the kid is going to visit Ohio State....

He lists Florida, Bama, LSU and tOSU as his four visits....Probably gone to the SEC but we have a chance...

roflmao You have no chance. The only reason why he listed OSU in my opinion is to get back at the coaches for dropping him. Once the coaches found out he was being shady they said peace. He would still be committed to UofM if we didn't have the no visit policy. He didn't drop us we dropped him.

Frankly, I'd agree. Dawson is a very good player, but coaching staffs have their pride. And even with the elite recruits...the ones who are into constant drama seem less likely to work out as a player than kids who aren't into drama. JMO.

I can't remember the specific situation, but I know in the past PSU has had kids "mess" with them and they essentially cut off contact. Sometimes it's just not worth it.

  • He tried to play UM and the coaches and I think he honestly thought they wouldn't cut ties because he was a high level prospect and local kid.

    Michmania

  • If he really did try and stay committed after this was all exposed, which I believe he did. Then I could see him feeling "spurned" by Michigan and looking to play for their bitter rival. I hope that isn't the case, but w/ someone who was playing games originally it wouldn't surprise me if he had that attitude.

That being said, he's gonna be at Florida.

This. There's no way he ends up in Columbus. He may visit to try to get under Hoke's skin but that's about it.

  • I just want to say this. I agree 100% with the coaches no visit policy. Think about your own life, when u commit yourself to something that's it. When u have a job or a relationship you can't decide to try other jobs or try another girl without sacrificing your original commitment. Besides guys, we all our Michigan men and take great pride in it. We have a coach who is a true Michigan man. We want Michigan men, men that are committed to the greatest university in the world and proud of it. Think of guys like Shane, Dymonte, LLT, and Ferns. Guys like these and the rest of our commits are the guys I want leading our program. When the going gets tough guys like these are the ones that will lead us to victory. Sure Dawson is a great talent and it sucks to loose him but if he's not true blue then he shouldn't be at Michigan. What Brady is doing with this no visit policy is brilliant. With this policy we will know in a couple years that the guys on this team never visited a school after there commitment to Michigan. It will show on the field with their love, loyalty, commitment to Michigan, each other, the coaches, and the fans. This policy will work for the best, have faith. Go BLUE!!!!!

i agree. The only lineman i want is Johnson. We need OT's, not guards. Linebacker and safety are my concern on the recruiting front.
