Yes, he said he could envision me playing DT or OG and possibly both.

Between that and Meyer telling you you're the next Percy Harvin, you have some difficult decisions to make.

FWIW here is the story from our end

He has called our staff and said he wanted to set up a visit to UF, he has done this 3 times this year, first for FNL's and then for the UK game and the LSU game. He set up the visit throughout the week and then come time to visit he no showed. After he did for LSU again one of our coaches who is still close to Mattison decided to give him a call and fill him in on what the kid was doing. This was a week ago(the day or 2 after the LSU game) and a week later Michigan drops him

draw your own conclusions. Kid was trying to play the game with both staffs

    Wow

Mikey D also said he could see me as a Spartan, something about a great reputation of recruiting nationally.

If all this is true, then David Dawson clearly does not understand what it means to be "committed" to something.

Hopefully he commits to Florida then calls up 'Bama or something.

    Damn, that's pretty low.

    Well, he's Florida's headache now.

This is why they just ended it completely IMO. He told the coaches he was over the UF thing, but was scheduling visits behind their backs... yeah not gonna fly.

If he was upfront and told them that he was going to visit, I think it may have gone differently. Obviously he wouldn't have been considered committed any longer, but they might have stayed in contact with him

Yeah, if a kid does something like this, he really doesn't understand the concept of commitment. I'd tell him that we'd get back to him if we had an extra scholarship on NSD, but not until then.

Our o-line is still going to be very good, would've been nice to have him but hopefully they can find someone to replace him.

From film I have seen, Ira Denson is the best guard in this years class....not to say that Dawson is bad, but other sites have him ranked as such. Denson is a future 1st rounder I feel.

Kid played the Michigan coaches like a fiddle, why are people wishing the best for him? Now were in a tough spot because we have been telling people were full at o line.

I agree. I don't know why people are bashing you. He knew for a long time. his tweets from a week ago

Great question, maybe the competition got to him.

I can't find it now, but he was complaining about not getting enough recognition from Michigan fans/commits at the Opening, and Bosch called him out on his whiny BS.

  • These recruits are still kids, and though Dawson was boneheaded, I could understand his desire to take visits. I also understand the Michigan coaches' recruiting policy. People should expect the occasional wandering eye by a 17 year old. The team may have taken a recruiting hit, but it is not like this is out of the ordinary for a recruiting cycle, which is never over until signing day. Regardless, in my opinion, I don't think Dawson could do better than Michigan (obviously...I have a heavy bias) so he really only hurt himself.

Well, if true, Coach Hoke did the right thing by cutting Dawson lose. He was being less than honest with our coaches.

You've got a good point. Is there any particular reason that most of us are taking GibbonsGator's "story" as gospel? I'm not saying it's not true. I have no idea. I'm just asking why very few are questioning its veracity. I know it does a lot to explain why our coaches would pull the scholly, but even GibbonsGator in his post refered to this explanation as "the story from our end."

His head coach Wilcher didn't seem to happy about the way Dawson handled it either. He said something along the lines of a commitment is something to be honored and hopes Dawson can learn from this.

Some kids need to learn the hard way.

  • Wish the coaches would have let him back in if he tried. Didn't actually take any visits and might really want to be a Wolverine and just wanted a free trip to Florida.

Maybe if David doesn't commit to anyone before signing day and we have room available we call him back up and take him back if he wants to?

    No. and No.

He lied to the coaches and went behind their backs. He's done.
