David Dawson Parts Ways

First wouldn't be surprised if he goes to MSU or OSU to stay close to home and second he reaches out to UM in a few weeks and they say no again. It is clear he didn't decommit from UM by now

You are a very smart person. clap I think you are very accurate on both fronts.

  • he's been talking to derrick green on twitter on how michigan fans are bashing him and they need to grow up. looks like he is trying to negetave recruit michigan right now. Michigan fans are not the one that need to grow up, he does. he's been pulling immature kid moves this whole week. Honestly, I'm happy he is gone. He's really immature and wants things his way. that would not go well with our coaches if he was on the team. we are loaded at OL and 2014 OL class looks like it's going to be another great one.

  • Does David Dawson think it's OK to go behind the back of the coaching staff that gave him a free ride to play football and stopped recruiting other linemen to please him?

The kid needs to grow up, the twitter bashing is unnecessary, but so isn't bashing schools and including rival schools in a top 5 to piss off fans.

If he truly has a problem with it, why doesn't he just delete his twitter and make it private instead of complaining about it?

I agree, he is trying to make everyone feel sorry for him and think he is a victim.

What really sucks, and its so pathetic it even gets to this, but it could easily be a troll fan base, sending things to Dawson acting as a Michigan fan. You gotta hope kids don't honestly put stoc into it. IE: Green

  • Having the Gators as my second favorite school, I'm a bit unsure why the Gators would still be interested in Dawson if the stories of his sliminess are true. I don't follow Gator recruiting and haven't been to the Gator boards, but what little I have heard is that Muschamp was making it a big deal to look for high character recruits. The Gator coaches have to know about the alleged sliminess since according to the story it was someone close to the Gators who informed Michigan's coaches.

I've been wondering if that's why he's added ohio & msu and the Top 5 into the mix, because the Gators have cooled on him as well.

    thevictor_11

  • Honestly with how desperate ohio is for OL right now, they are probably pushing pretty hard.

And State... well a couple of teammates (Drake, Finley) are committed there, and he obviously has an ax to grind with UM.

  • Ok so can someone fill in the blanks for me. I am trying to figure out how this all went down as I confused.

    1. Commits to Michigan that weekend we got 8 commits
    2. At the Opening he discusses possibly camping at Florida. Coaching staff calls him up to clarify that would be a visit and would not count as a commit. Doesn't camp at Florida.
    3. This is where I get confused. Did we get tired of him flirting with Florida and straight pull his scholarship then he visited Florida? Did he say he was going to visit so we no longer consider him a commit? I know a Florida coach let our coaching staff know of his intention to visit, did our coaching staff not like hearing it from someone else and pulled his scholarship?
3.5) Michigan 'fans' blast him on twitter. These people, I do not like them.
    4. He visits Florida, doesn't commit.
    5. Top 5 now includes OSU and MSU.

I was surprised at him not committing to Flordia and I assumed that was the school he was going to as he dropped us for them. Did something happen and now he is basically without a school and looking at OSU and MSU seriously because we dropped him? I'm just confused about all of this. Any clarity would be appreciated.

He lied to the coaches by saying he was a solid commit. Solid commits don't flirt with other schools or constantly chatter with other schools commits

I think you have it all down perfectly. There are only three possible reasons he didn't commit to UF:

    1. The visit didn't go as well as expected by one of the parties
    2. The visit went well, but he doesn't want to make a second commitment without visiting other schools first
    3. Somewhere in the back of his mind he knows he screwed up and is hoping he can mend fences and recommit to UM

I don't know which one it is, but I am pretty surprised he didn't commit to UF. And I think the only way UM even considers taking him back is if he is willing to stay uncommitted and sweat it out to see if we still have an open slot in mid January. If Dawson waits patiently and we haven't replaced him by then, maybe the coaches will consider extending him a new offer. But that seems extremely unlikely to me at this point.

  • I LOVE the way our Coaches go about their business.

    1. This is Michigan and we are moving forward
    2. We want you to move forward with us ( to recruits)
    3. Take your time and think about it, because when you commit to us, we commit to you.
    4. ANY RECRUIT that thinks they are that good and they are bigger than the program and doesnt follow no.3, You are done and we are on to the next one.

Message to the world, they say what they mean and the mean what they say.

    LOVE IT!

Especially this year for OL recruiting. We wrapped up the best OL class in the country back in March. I love all our OLs, but so many top OLs want to come to Michigan that if you're not on board, we have no problem moving on to the next one.

Here's the way it sounds to me:

Along the camp circuit Dawson becomes friends with some Florida recruits and decides he wants to camp at Florida. He mentions "competition" a lot and refers to himself as the #1 OG in the nation. I don't think he really wants to decommit from Michigan, but I do believe he wants to prove himself through offers and interest from other coaching staffs.

In the meantime, the coaching staff learns of his intentions and tells him what will happen if he camps at Florida. I surmise that he conveyed that he was committed to Michigan and would stop the flirtations with other schools and staffs. Then, and this isn't the definitive explanation, Dawson continues a secretive recruitment with Florida's staff, and a member who was friends with Mattison lets the Michigan staff know about it.

From Coach Wilcher's comments out of Cass, it definitely sound like Michigan cut off contact. I also see Dawson's comments since everything went down, and it doesn't sound like Dawson is unhappy that that bridge has been burnt.

I don't think he was particularly sold on Florida or any other school when he decommitted.

He is very competitive, and I think he wants the recognition and stature of a big offer list. I don't think he could handle hearing all the stories about staffs and programs fawning over recruits at or below his own level and stay content as a settled commit.

  • We all need to just move on... Dawson and Michigan are no more, end of story. Kid can go wherever he pleases.... And it won't bother me one way or the other if he picks state. Poor kid missed out on a golden opportunity, and he now has to live with it.

  • It sounds like Michigan State believes they are now in the driver's seat for Dawson, especially if his Mom continues to insist that he remain close to home.

Maybe that's the case, but he went to the Opening and SMSB camps. And he will be at the Under Armour game. How does visiting UF get him that much more recognition? At best, it gets him another offer (which I believe he already had before taking the visit). And if what you are saying is true, no way he ends up at a mid-tier program like MSU. UF, OSU, ND, Bama, LSU, maybe even Oregon ... that's where he will end up IMO.
