Danny O'Brien

  • I was shocked when I read this, but I guess there's a rumor going around that he will de-commit from Tennessee and commit to Michigan this week. Supposedly, Tennessee is bringing in Buddy Green from Navy, and he uses wicked defensive sets.

    I say I'm shocked because I thought the staff moved on from O'Brien. I didn't think they would reconsider taking him.

    Again, I just read this on another site. Who knows if it's true.

    Definitely not gonna get my hopes up, but I'd welcome with open arms if the staff decided to take his commitment. Gonna be interesting to see how this plays out.

    EDIT: I don't think its true though. Michigan was pretty adamant that it was only taking one one tech.

  • Wasn't Michigan recruiting O'Brien as a DT and PeeWee as a Nose Tackle? I don't think it would affect Pipkins status.

    And I will be shocked if Michigan takes him as well, but it's the off-season, tons of speculation!

  • Sounds like the staff would absolutely take his commitment at this point in time. And as for Pee Wee, we all know the guy loves to have fun with social media and I bet he is just messing around. My question is how the hell did he hear about this so quick?

    Michigan wasn't recruiting O'Brien at all, which was why he picked Tennessee.

    Just like Pipkins most recent tweet, O'Brien wouldn't do much for us given Pipkins and Wormley are our likely DTs. Wormley will grow to a 3Tech with Godin and Strobel at SDE.

    Just like you are saying, I'd be shocked if this had any truth to it.

    Kids read these boards, and even if they don't, people tweet them all the news and ask questions. Sure somebody tweeted him saying "what do you think of Michigan pursuing OBrien?"

    I think after a average senior year the staff just moved on from him. But I don't know.

    Yeah, they were entertaining it, but I think once they saw more practices they realized they have enough people at DT. O'Brien didn't really impress anyone this season as far as I saw. Got by on being bigger than high school kids, from what I read.

    You're saying that you don't know if the coaches would even take him, while some over there are saying that the staff would take him.

    We'll find out soon, but I wouldn't bet on it.

    Because they don't want another DT. Campbell is the only SR. Washington, Ash, Wilkins, Rock, Pipkins, Wormley, Godin... Lots of depth there for a couple years. They are targeting top flight DTs like Henry Poggi (though he may be a Bama lean) in the 2013 class, so I don't think they want another DT in this class out of the guys who were interested. No Schutt, no OBrien.
