It's entertaining seeing these people live vicariously through the recruiting of 17 year old children. It sometimes blows my mind there are real people on the other end of these buckeye posts.
Also, lets have a little bit of perspective here. This is one kid leaving Michigan to go to Ohio State. In the last two recruiting classes(including 2013) we've had 17 kids leave Ohio to come to Michigan.

In the words of John Paul Jones, "I have not yet begun to fight."
However, if you must poke the bear, this is what you get:
Let's look at your misguided abortion of a post.
"If you don't care about sporting events, why are you here?"
Whoosh. Fursty was explaining why, for everyone other than the actual athletes, Michigan makes the most sense. Shockingly enough, some of us regular students go to school for reasons other than the athletics.
"A university with a purpose of educating the youth of the country?" What does that mean? OSU is a land grant university with the TRUE purpose of educating "the common people". A concept the Trustees of Michigan would not understand 100 years ago, when UM's reputation was built...
I'm going to assume that this is all one thought, although your inability to end sentences properly and your utter lack of cogent points force me to pretty much just guess. You bring up "land-grant university" like the fact that your status as one means you're dedicated to the common people. Please. Cornell University is a land-grant university. All that status means is that the state gave you some land, is doesn't give you some populist mandate.
On top of that, land-grant universities were established by the Morrill Acts of 1860 and 1890. Michigan had already been a thriving, elite institution for 43 years when the first land-grant universities began.
a lot of money poured in from the rich automotive industry. THAT is when the UM alumni started as nouveau riche and that "air" of privilege has continued to this day.
You want to know why money poured in from that industry? Because Michigan produced the executives and officers that ran that industry. Michigan created a cycle of graduating elite students who then went on to financial success, only to give back to their alma mater to foster the next generation of elite graduates. On top of that, the auto industry recognized a smart investment - just like law firms donate to elite law schools to gain a foothold for the next generation of lawyers, the auto industry did the same at Michigan.
The rich and privileged in France in 1789 had the same attitude as most Michigan alumni do these days.
Oh, really? Please, do tell. It sounds like you just saw Les Mis in theaters and decided to paint the vast majority of Michigan alumni with the only anti-rich brush you could quickly call to mind.
And pride comes before the fall.... and your sports programs have been falling for 15 years. You need to rethink your paradigm... as OSU has with the hire of Meyer. I mean if you want to win sports.
Ah, the arbitrary cutoff date! The best weapon an OSU fan has in his quiver! I like how you have to say we've been failing for 15 years, because at 20 you hit our last national championship. As for our "paradigm," I'll take the coach who'll avoid another tattoo scandal any day. Finally, "win sports"? I think you accidentally a word. Try again.
If not.... get off this board and go read a book.
Michigan students are actually capable of multi-tasking to the point of reading multiple books and still maintaining a presence on this board. I guess that's the difference between us and you. Might want to take your own advice here.

Yeah, I'm a lawyer, so I can be persuasive... to those with an open mind. AND I NEVER used the phrase "comparable academics", just that it is a major by major analysis. Believe it or not, there ARE areas in academics where OSU is superior, even to the great University of Michigan. Done trying to make people second guess their prejudices. It is uncomfortable trying to think outside the box and rethinking.

CMXI : Sorry for the delay. Off getting a BJ... I think you'd agree: much better than you and me "debating". Good cogent thoughts. Les Mis? Please. That was set, I believe, in post-Napoleonic France., long after 1789. Or do you even know the difference? Never saw it, so not sure. As for my knowledge of UM and how it got its excellent reputation, I got it from fucking Mike Wallace.... or don't you know who he is, supposed Michigan Man?? I have one purpose for being here tonight: don't make fun of somebody who says "I want to go to OSU because of the academics." Unfortunately, I've not been able to open minds in a persuasive manner. But, then again, if I was TRULY persuasive, I'd be Urban Meyer and getting recruiting classes that put Hoke to shame.
