  • Michigan - Great academics with good sports

OSU - subpar academics with great sports

Not hard to see why recruits want them more. Remember what Adolphus Washington said about OSU? Their classes are so easy you'd have to be an idiot to fail there, or something along those lines. They are an SEC minded school located in B10 country.

Yeah, I'm a lawyer, so I can be persuasive... to those with an open mind. AND I NEVER used the phrase "comparable academics", just that it is a major by major analysis. Believe it or not, there ARE areas in academics where OSU is superior, even to the great University of Michigan. Done trying to make people second guess their prejudices. It is uncomfortable trying to think outside the box and rethinking.

Fine. OSU has a better felon development program, happy I admitted it?

Agreed. And there was something academically that he was impressed with, e.g., the Fisher School of Business or the Criminal Studies program, etc. Again, is it POSSIBLE UM does not trump OSU in EVERY conceivable major or graduate studies program?

Not every. But that said, the ones you are pointing out...not great examples.

Oh, it is a good school. I don't think that Webb's decision was based on academics though. I think he simply liked the football there more.

    Agreed.

If you don't care about sporting events, why are you here? "A university with a purpose of educating the youth of the country?" What does that mean? OSU is a land grant university with the TRUE purpose of educating "the common people". A concept the Trustees of Michigan would not understand 100 years ago, when UM's reputation was built... a lot of money poured in from the rich automotive industry. THAT is when the UM alumni started as nouveau riche and that "air" of privilege has continued to this day. The rich and privileged in France in 1789 had the same attitude as most Michigan alumni do these days. And pride comes before the fall.... and your sports programs have been falling for 15 years. You need to rethink your paradigm... as OSU has with the hire of Meyer. I mean if you want to win sports. If not.... get off this board and go read a book.

Shut the fuck up. You make no sense. Buckeye fans always telling Michigan fans to stop using "the last century" in our arguments and you make up some bullshit about stuff that happened in the 1800's. Fuck off.

Nothing better than when you destroy trolls with intelligence and logic lol

This is why I couldn't be anything but a Michigan fan. Here, the logic and intelligence is understood and appreciated. My arguing style would be like pearls before swine over on Bucknuts.

You know what other schools have a "TRUE purpose of educating 'the common people'"?

    Community colleges.

If this is an example of your "arguing style", I'm not impressed. "Logic and intelligence" is code for you for just spouting the same old UM party line that we're the best at everything we do and the facts be damned.

Let's get a lawyer on lawyer debate going here. Cornell education vs. OSU education?

  • M****gan generally has a much better community of scholars and leaders of industry than Ohio State. However this is a message board about football and basketball. No one is posting on this message board about your star scholar's exploits in a science fair. In the football and basketball arena, my friends, your athletes are just as uneducated as ours but nowhere near as strong, fast or capable of victory at the highest level. Thusly, you have to humble yourselves in the face of our dominance.
Your fan base I'll freely admit likely earns more than ours. Your big brains surely can grasp the reality that you have become our little brother in the sports world.
In addition, why have the great minds in Ann Arbor been unable to stop Detroit from becoming the worst city in the civilized world? There is nothing in Ohio so damnable as that citiy's existence.

Again, you don't even see your own arrogance. We are Michigan. Here's 20 dollars for your pizza, now get off my front stoop. I'm a Captain of Industry. God. Sad. You won't stop getting beat over and over again by OSU UNTIL you give up the past and get some vision.

Right, talk shit about Detroit. What does that have to do with anything, besides make you look like an asshole?

  • I've never been on a Michigan board before. I want to compliment you guys as most of you are have a lot of class. I don't see that quite as much on an OSU board (to my shame, since I'm a Buckeye fan). Long live The Game!!

  • It's entertaining seeing these people live vicariously through the recruiting of 17 year old children. It sometimes blows my mind there are real people on the other end of these buckeye posts.

Also, lets have a little bit of perspective here. This is one kid leaving Michigan to go to Ohio State. In the last two recruiting classes(including 2013) we've had 17 kids leave Ohio to come to Michigan.

If this is an example of your "arguing style", I'm not impressed. "Logic and intelligence" is code for you for just spouting the same old UM party line that we're the best at everything we do and the facts be damned.

In the words of John Paul Jones, "I have not yet begun to fight."

However, if you must poke the bear, this is what you get:

Let's look at your misguided abortion of a post.

"If you don't care about sporting events, why are you here?"

Whoosh. Fursty was explaining why, for everyone other than the actual athletes, Michigan makes the most sense. Shockingly enough, some of us regular students go to school for reasons other than the athletics.

"A university with a purpose of educating the youth of the country?" What does that mean? OSU is a land grant university with the TRUE purpose of educating "the common people". A concept the Trustees of Michigan would not understand 100 years ago, when UM's reputation was built...

I'm going to assume that this is all one thought, although your inability to end sentences properly and your utter lack of cogent points force me to pretty much just guess. You bring up "land-grant university" like the fact that your status as one means you're dedicated to the common people. Please. Cornell University is a land-grant university. All that status means is that the state gave you some land, is doesn't give you some populist mandate.

On top of that, land-grant universities were established by the Morrill Acts of 1860 and 1890. Michigan had already been a thriving, elite institution for 43 years when the first land-grant universities began.

a lot of money poured in from the rich automotive industry. THAT is when the UM alumni started as nouveau riche and that "air" of privilege has continued to this day.

You want to know why money poured in from that industry? Because Michigan produced the executives and officers that ran that industry. Michigan created a cycle of graduating elite students who then went on to financial success, only to give back to their alma mater to foster the next generation of elite graduates. On top of that, the auto industry recognized a smart investment - just like law firms donate to elite law schools to gain a foothold for the next generation of lawyers, the auto industry did the same at Michigan.

The rich and privileged in France in 1789 had the same attitude as most Michigan alumni do these days.

Oh, really? Please, do tell. It sounds like you just saw Les Mis in theaters and decided to paint the vast majority of Michigan alumni with the only anti-rich brush you could quickly call to mind.

And pride comes before the fall.... and your sports programs have been falling for 15 years. You need to rethink your paradigm... as OSU has with the hire of Meyer. I mean if you want to win sports.

Ah, the arbitrary cutoff date! The best weapon an OSU fan has in his quiver! I like how you have to say we've been failing for 15 years, because at 20 you hit our last national championship. As for our "paradigm," I'll take the coach who'll avoid another tattoo scandal any day. Finally, "win sports"? I think you accidentally a word. Try again.

If not.... get off this board and go read a book.

Michigan students are actually capable of multi-tasking to the point of reading multiple books and still maintaining a presence on this board. I guess that's the difference between us and you. Might want to take your own advice here.
