DT in the mix for Michigan offer

Darius Commissiong has been in daily contact with the Wolverines. What has the DT been hearing from Michigan? And what will he look for during Saturday's visit to Ann Arbor?

  • I really hope Gibbs gets that offer now that Webb's off the board. He's a Cass Tech guy, and he really showed up at the Adidas camp. Gibbs also seems to have the combination of athleticism and size to back up Pipkins at the nose, or play next to him at the three-tech.

With Pagano getting an offer (although he isn't a threat to commit immediately) I'm surprise Gibbs hasn't received his yet.

It sucks but the coaches probably know they can slow-play Gibbs if they need to because he really wants that UM offer

I definitely think Gibbs is worthy of a Michigan offer. Like you were saying, he was outstanding at the Adidas Invitational. He had a great burst off the ball and had excellent moves and technique to get to the QB.

Yeah, that's true enough, but the pickins of obviously better candidates is pretty slim at this point.

Not true still a good amount of DT's out there and still early

  • You can correct me with some names, but I am not aware of too many players who can play the nose, have legitimate interest in Michigan, and are obviously better than GIbbs.

Crayton seems off the board for injury reasons. Montravious Adams, Eddie Vanderdoes, Jay Ellison, and Michael Hill are big time longshots. Latham is out. Webb signed with PSU. That rounds out Michigan's offers to NT possibilities.

  • Is Gibbs seen as a NT though. His body type and film has him more as a 3-tech in my opinion. We don't know his true weight right now it is all over the place on different sites.

Gibbs looked like he was about 280 on Saturday, slightly less than what we have him listed at. I think your right though, he looked more like a 3-tech than a nose.

Vanderdoes is more of a 5/3-tech like Strobel and Wormley.

FWIW, it appears as though Michigan is recruiting Commissiong harder than Gibbs, so it would appear that Commissiong could be closer to an offer than Gibbs is. That being said, you never know, and these things are extremely fluid.

I agree. There are a ton of outstanding players out there that few people have even heard of it. This summer and in the early portion of the fall, there are always some great players that emerge at every position.
