Everyone of the guys I listed had Michigan offers, from RichRod. He was a crappy coach and recruiter for Midwest talent.
FYI, Michigan signed it's fair share of 3* and lower kids each year under Carr, this is how many 3* and lowers each year according to Rivals.
I honestly feel that Carr would have pursued even more than the 25 kids in that time frame that had common offers. He wouldn't have spent as much time in Florida picking up Florida kids that didn't have Florida, FSU and Miami offers. Hell, Hoke has matched Dantonio for 26 kids in the 2 years compared to the 25 during RichRod's 3 years.
Yes, you had significant threats at WR, hence a significant passing game (in general)....and passing is not impossible with high winds if you run the right routes and schemes, such as Martins TD when he went in motion behind the line of scrimmage and getting the ball in the flat and our CB's not being able to tackle.
Yea. Instead of going south, Carr would have went after more of the kids that Dantonio went after. Who knows if the kids would have went to Michigan instead. Heck, maybe all of the kids would have chosen MSU still, but to just say that a kid is a 3* so he wouldn't get a Michigan offer shows how ill informed Cope truly is.
Kalis would have gone to tOSU, the Cass-Tech kids were not going to MSU, State stopped recruiting Norfleet well before he signed with UM (just saying that even if he didn't sign with UM, State wouldn't have picked him up), Wormley would also have gone to tOSU. I don't know enough about Strobel, Williams and Wilson's recruitments. James Ross, I honestly don't know.
Pretty much Funchess, MO, Braden and Godin from 2012. Pipkens . . . I doubt it, he was a national recruit, and MSU usually doesn't pull those.
In the current class I could see Gedeon, Hurst Jr. and Kuglar. Bosch would have looked around a lot more, Morris would never have been Green, same with Poggi. Shallman would be an interesting case. Thomas would be a Buckeye if he wasn't a Wolverine.
I've said it a few times, but I'll say it again: these "head to head" battles that UM fans talk about rarely, if ever, come down to MSU - UM as the last 2 finalists. I mean, Poggi was down to UM and Bama, I don't even know if Dymonte Thomas was aware he had an MSU offer. Shallman was probably close, same with Kuglar.
Serious question here, could one of you guys highlight which recruits with mutual offers actually came down to MSU - UM as their final 2? It's true UM is beating out MSU for these recruits, but IMHO it's more like they're beating out Bama, tOSU, PSU, Oklahoma, FL State, Nebraska, etc. You guys make it seem that Dantonio would be bringing in top 10 classes if only Hoke wasn't standing in the way. I just don't think that's the case.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
To sum up, these are recruits that most generally agree could have (would have?) ended up at MSU:
Maurice Hurst Jr
AJ Williams (not sure)
That's a really solid list of recruits right there, and would have made these last 2 classes Dantonio's best by far.
This is Michigan, fergodsakes.
I honestly don't know, somewhere between all of them and none of them. All we have to pull from is their offer sheet.
Was it Kuglar that grew up an MSU fan and visited MSU, only to commit to UM the next day?
That would have been a solid haul for MSU.
No, he was supposed to visit MSU on a Sunday, and some MSU fans thought he was on commitment watch for them. He visited Michigan on the Saturday of that weekend. He committed to Michigan, cancelling his visit to MSU, all without Hoke even being on campus to meet him. He visited later talking about how pumped he was to meet Hoke.
Hurst is the recruit that visited MSU and then visited Michigan and committed to Michigan soon after. Same with Bosch, I believe.
Especially since I am REALLY high on 5 of them, I think the 5 have great chances to be multi-year starters and All-B1G players.
Actually he planned a MSU visit only to cancel and commit to UofM after visiting Ann Arbor.
I believe that Bosch also talked with Dantonio for like 5 hours during that visit too.
Yeah I mistook him for Hurst. It's just so many MSU lean commits can get confusing.
Oh man, that does sound right. I remember a meltdown a trcmb over the kid spending so much time with Dantonio only to commit to Michigan. Hard sell.
If Michigan was throwing out true freshman that Dantonio recruits, it would be an issue, but not those which Mattison/Hoke recruited that have college ready builds such as Pipkins, Wormley and Strobel. Make no mistake, these 3 will make contributions on the field. We will have freshman this year and subsequent years compete for playing time, not just because of current depth, but we are recruiting kids not to redshirt because they are elite prospects and too good to keep of the field.
add PSU into the mix...their recruiting seems to be resurgent
Stealing Sparty's recruits and owning them on the field since 1898
Well we've had two back to back top 10 classes. 2014 looks like it will be back in the top 5 like 2013 was.
I agree with this. One thing I would add is, I expect these kids to be part of a rotation, not playing the vast majority of the snaps.
To be honest, the lines are much more difficult to start on as a True Freshman. It's not all about size. It's about getting adjusted, learning the playbook, technique, instinct. The good thing is I think Michigan's guys have these, just not to the level they could, and should, if they wait a year.
I just call it like I see it.
I wish all of the incoming freshmen would redshirt, but the lack of depth will prevent this, imo. I expect Pipkins to play as well as either Wormley or Strobel. I see Godin, Ojemudia, and Henry redshirting.
Do you ever wonder if you have too much time on your hands if you're making lists like this?
