Meh nice little subtle shot taking at Michigan there buddy. If I was deciding between the 2 schools I would look at the fact that OSU needed to break NCAA rules the last 8 years in order to be in contention. So, yeah the choice is much simpler than you might like to believe.
I'm not trying to convince every one of you, but I'm not posting as a hostile OSU fan here, there was no subtle shot being taken it was honest. And you can choose what you'd like to believe about tressel but if you're going off of what was said in sports illustrated a lot of that was never proven. I for one choose to believe some of it was true but must was not because of his character during and after his tenure along with how much he gave back to Ohio. You can choose to believe OSU cheated to beat you, but I think some of UM's fan base just uses it as an excuse and believe it all because it's convenient.
Once Tressel lied to the NCAA his credibility went out the window. You talk about his character. His character is that he chose, yes chose not made a mistake, to lie to the NCAA and let his players continue to play while breaking NCAA rules.
Yes you took a shot at Michigan with the whole BCS thing. Michigan had a short 3 year span where we were down. The kids coming out of HS today were around when Michigan was putting good teams on the field.
Are you also implying that it's impossible to win at Ohio State unless it were cheating because that's preposterous. Great facilities, improving academics and one of the largest universities in the nation = a competitive program.
Kids in middle school do not put as much value on bowl games as they do in high school, those 3 years were some of the worst 3 years in the history of the program during the years where kids are most easily influenced by the media and anything on tv. That's my argument, I'm not saying it was even 5 years of poor teams, but 3 important years during the recruiting process.
No. I think your whole spiel about OSU having a better shot at a national championship is BS. Basically, I threw the cheating thing back at you because of that crap.
I am saying 3 years wasn't enough to have any affect on Michigan. We are recruiting as well as ever.
Also, Tressel claimed he was unsure of the details he could give about the investigation because it was a law issue and felt it could interfere with federal/state investigations. I'm not saying he's perfect, but if you consider one action to define a person, then I'm glad you're not my God. I'll take the success of our programs and the increase of grad rates and gpas of the football players along with the amount of community service he had the players commit to as it made Columbus a better place. You act like he is a terrible person because he protected his players, kids he considers family, from getting into trouble with the law, not the ncaa. Idk if he would have told after the law investigation was over, but I believe he would have because I know a different tressel than you do.
defensive much about Tressel? I never said he was a bad person. I am saying he is a lying head coach at a major University. I have no reason to not believe that he didn't look the other way at other infractions during his whole coaching career.
Sorry, I'm on my phone so all this takes forever. I don't know your team like you do because i don't follow your team, but from what I know about my team is that we have a talented team that is still young with a quarterback with experience and a defense that should be strong the next couple of years. Having a good quarterback is important to a championship team and denard is a senior this year with an unproven freshman quarterback you'll need to grow up fast. I believe we have a greater opportunity to get to a national championship for the kids coming this year and next year
Not true. We have a high 4/5 star QB in Devin Gardner(Junior unless his medical redshirt comes through) in the wings.
Yes, I am defensive of tressel because he's the only coach I've known at osu, they were 10 great years he had given and the only 10 years I remember witnessing. After hearing about all of the great things he did for people for 10 years it's difficult to hear him be trashed by people who don't know everything about the situation. And you may not think you trashed him but I don't think I jabbed at michigan in my first post. Idk everything, you don't know everything, you choose to believe that because he lied and signed off on it he lied about everything, but I believe he did it to protect his players. if someone were to say that carr did the same things tressel did, wouldn't you defend him too? He is one of your own and someone you supported for a while too, so I bet you and many others would defend him.

Is he a dual threat our is he the next step to moving to a pro style offense?
No. I wouldn't defend him. Tressel protected his players? Which ones? The what 5 who commmitted the violations or the 80+ guys seving the bowl ban? That argument doesn't add up for me. The tats and stuff were minor and the guys who did those things would of gotten a couple games or something.
Sorry but when you make the decision Tressel did you are not going to have my respect as a head coach. I have made no judgements of Tressel outside of that.
I would say he is more in between. Not Denard as a dual threat but not a true statue pro style pocket passer.
Little kids coming over here to lecture us.
Clutching to the fallacy of the Vest because you don't know any better.
I don't mean he protected them from the NCAA I mean from the law because hw was alerted to everything because of a federal investigation. He was told by a lawyer to sit on it and so he did. In doing so he kept the lawyer safe and the kids out of the media speculation that would have occurred if he would have reported it. I don't think tressel planned to have those five go free, but his plan didn't work because he was rightfully fired. I think what he did was not wrong, but not right. I think he considered his role of head coach to be a parent to the kids, so that's why he was conflicted in the end, and honestly I would rather have a head coach that cares enough to lose his job to protect me or my kid than a coach who would give me up to save himself. it just didn't work out like you said because those 5 got away and the rest are paying for it so I can definitely understand what you're saying.
Are you serious, butte? I've never had a problem posting over here until you say that, there's no reason to call someone out because they're in their 20's. Call it being brainwashed if you want but the university thrived because of the direction the football program was in under tressel. The overall gpa of both the team and incoming freshman students increased as did number of applicants because the university received more funding than ever from donors. No income sports grew and our tennis program and rowing program won championships with that funding.
I'll read the link you posted later when I'm not on my phone.
This probably all sounds so typical coming from a bucknut, but this is what I believe. You obviously see a side different than I that you believe is true, and that's what naked an argument. There's no reason to show disrespect because I have a belief different than yours.
will we be seeing much of him this year?
who knows. He played some last year. I would expect him to get some mop up duty or see the field a bit.
I'm extremely excited to watch our teams adapt different style offensive mindsets, I believe both teams have the ability to do it seamlessly although we currently lack the playmakers according to reports on offense and meyer hasn't been able to recruit them well it seems (like our o line)
will be interesting to see what Meyer can do with his offense in the Big Ten.
Hopefully it fairs better than rich rods [praying] or else we'll be hearing the same stuff you all did from the osu fan base
