ESPN seems to think so. Or, more accurately, we were before the Ed Martin Scandal* and are still running neck and neck with MSU for the #2 spot behind Indiana.
* MSU currently sits st #11 nationally with 369 total points, while UM currently sits at #13 nationally with 360 points. But UM was docked 16 points due to the scandal. With those 16 points, UM would be ahead of MSU.

Yeah i saw that we were 13th nationally over the last 50 years. I was shocked to see that. Our Bball program apparently hasn't been as bad as most like to believe.
I find it amusing that without the points deducted from the sanctions we are ahead of State.... even with the pretty much non existent decade of the 2000s.
We've played in five NCAA Championship games since 1960, which is an average of about once a decade. The only B10 team that has played in more is IU with six. MSU has played in three, two of which occurred during our banishment from competitive hoops over the past 12 years. The Ed Martin Scandal not only set back our program but it boosted Sparty's significantly.
For most of our history, we were one of the top 2-3 basketball programs in the B10 along with IU and OSU. Here's to a restoration of the rightful order!

So we're the # 2 FB program and the # 13 BB program. I like
We are college football
And the #1 hockey program.
Note: We still need a hockey emoticon.
