MD has been so good at beating UM lately we haven't really seen what happens after a defeat. Past MSU coaches just weren't able to regroup their team. Judging by the sentiment on the MSU board it will be all over if MSU loses. I've seen some MSU teams that had talent and promise completely meltdown after a UM loss. Guess if it happens we will all find out how MD handles it.
Rocky, we dont know Exactly how Michigan is going to defend msu, but with sims out of the lineup, how does that affect the actual gameplan. I mean is he a great safety valve, or do they incorporate specific plays to get him the ball? What will they do without him? I see your offense testing us less downfield since when know one was open you could still get the ball to dion on check down.
Toussaint received 2 carries for 7 yards in that game. On the year, Fitz hasn't done much, though he'd be effective on counter draws; that's probably the most successful running play that opponents have run against MSU this season.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Good question. He's coached at both MSU and OSU, so it's no secret he hates UM. But he also really loves MSU, so much that he's made it his "destination job." I'm sure he takes a lot of pride in rebuilding our program. Hating and competing with UM comes with the territory of being the coach at MSU, so I guess there's a lot of overlap between those two things. He loves MSU more.
I actually think they go downfield more without Sims in the line-up.
You may see the other TEs leak down the seam or be run on a TE wheel route, but watch for more 3 WR sets.
this is the first time I've actually seen it I think it's funny
Dantonio is an intense guy. Hoke is folksy. Different strokes for different folks. It's what makes this rivalry great.
Clown shows are funny. showing the world that you can put 3 fingers in your dumpster is not.
If ND or the SEC come calling, he is gone
I disagree there. Dantonio is a Big Ten guy. I don't see him wanting to deal with the high expectations of the SEC fans and media. At MSU 7 wins and above should keep him there plus he's happy there doing what he likes to do. In the SEC the mid tier schools fire some very good coaches for not being able to win the SEC. The fans expectations make East Lansing look like Disney World. It's about talent there in the SEC. Unless MSU is foolish enough get rid of him after just one so so season I see him retiring there. I don't think Dantonio has the ambitions of a Nick Saban. He's old school and would like to build a winner right there. The MSU job is a much better job these days. With good facilities and support from the University and fans it's a much better place. Dantonio has proved more than any coach in their recent history that they can be winners.
Has G-Unit gholston recovered from that wicked "wind knocked out of him" play?
Yep, he's as close to 100% as a guy can be after 7 straight games.
Iyo, why has Gholton not lived up to the hype coming off of his play last year? Scheme? Lack of effort? Teams avoiding his side? Over-hype?
Do you think he was unconscious, and then came back a few possessions later?
Of course the player is going to want to continue, but for the trainers & coaches to allow it in this day & age is bothersome.
This topic was discussed in detail on tBB. What we learned from spartan fans is that a blow to the head, followed that player laying there motionless for a minute = getting the wind knocked out of him.
SpartanRocky seems more levelheaded than his brethren though.
I think it has more to do with the loss of Worthy more than anything else. Teams are avoiding him as well as double teaming. Rest of the DL can't take advantage of it though.
I'm not a doctor and was in the stands. I don't know for sure one way or the other and I won't opine beyond the fact that it's the doctor's call on the sideline. Gholston is the only one who knows for sure; everyone is free to draw their own conclusions.
With all due respeck, I do believe he was a product of worthy. In my opinion he is an ultra athletic long reach guy that makes excellent plays unblocked or in open space. He also occassionally gets a barred pass. However, like I said, he was a product of worthy. He had two tackles last year being single teamed. He cannot get off blocks by elite tackles like lewan.
He will make a couple plays this Saturday, but. ultimately I expect him to be quiet for the most part. Again
FYI, after missing the last 4 games with a back injury, DT/DE Tyler Hoover will be playing for MSU on Saturday.
He had couple good seasons, but everybody can see the fall of msu coming, due to hoke and meyer. msu cant compete for recruits in the midwest with michigan and ohio. he got some good players that michigan would of took cause of RR. msu would not be an 11 win team again for a long time. there is no point of him staying. dantonio is a really good coach and he would have more success at an ND or an sec school because he would be able to recruit better players over there. He has done a nice job coaching some average talent. imagine if he went to the sec and had some 4/5 star players on his team to coach up. Last year was the best year he would ever have at msu. that was their peak. They will not get to a national championship. Dantonio's best bet will be to go to a powerhouse school that attracts good players. people would like to play for him after seeing what he did at msu. I'm pretty sure dantonio knows that he can no longer compete with michigan in recruiting.
When Spartans wipe, are they folders, or crumplers?
Spartans have learned to wipe? They're almost like people these days.
