I had a very long convo with someone in the Plano area who trains kids down there. Same cat who was talking about SoSo. Here is what I was told...
Soso is visiting Texas on Friday and Mack is gonna offer. They are gonna turn the heat up on him to commit, but he wont. He wants to visit Oregon, OSU, and possibly Michigan if our coaches get it together down there. Soso is also waiting on Saban. If Bama gets involved, Mack may be in trouble. He isnt feeling A&M, but all his boys are and his people are. Which in turn is making him not be completely in love with Texas. All his guys he trains with, grew up with, and competed against are really feeling TAMU. Sumlin has it rollin down there.
Another kid he was raving about was QB Kyler Murray. Said the kid is the best QB in the state right now. He wants Michigan on him, but it aint gonna happen. If OSU offers, it could be over. And if that happens, its lights out in Texas for alot of teams. Kids will follow this kid anywhere was what I was told. And we all know package deals are rare and fall through, but if OSU offers him, SoSo and Murray may really end up in C-bus togetrher.
And the last thing that really got me upset...Mike Mitchell wanted Michigan. Bad. Coach Funk, who is doing a pretty good job down there, was told this. Michigan flat out passed. We have all heard that the kid is raw as heck and may not be a great LB instictively. But his raw athleticsm could have been used. And he was there for the taking according to my guy down there. And with Mike comes his younger brother Mickey, who is a beast on the basketball court. That was especially upsetting because of our apparent need at SAM late in the process. Oh well.
Coach J and Funk are in Texas (Dallas for Freddy, Houston for Funk). They are trying, but arent going full throttle. Its understandable, but I wish we were doing more. My guy mentioned that the former UM RB that he gets his info from is about to sit down with Singletary soon to talk about kids down there. And he is about to go into business with a former UM CB from Kansas that moved to Dallas to train kids. Could start to see a little more movement in Texas soon.
Thoughts? Am I being fed BS?
A&M is pushing hard for SoSo but they know he's a big Texas lean. I've heard his interest in other schools will be outweighed in the end by his love for Texas. Mack is pushing the 2015 class strong because he's trying to take some of the momentum that A&M has instate. At this particular point, A&M is the major recruiting power in TX. Multiple kids that would have even considered A&M previously are committing to A&M.
Kyler Murray is all A&M if A&M pushes for him. His dad was a former QB at A&M and most A&M fans feel that he's the best QB in the state, regardless of class. A true dual threat QB. A&M is pushing strong in 2015 for Chase Virgil as well, though and it seems like Virgil might be higher on the coaches list.
I don't know about the Mitchell thing. All things coming out of Prestonwood for the past year and a half, have been about his love for OSU and even his younger brother's love for OSU(stud BBall recruit). I know when A&M was recruiting him, he was basically trying to look for reasons not to go to OSU. The A&M guys believed that he was always an OSU guy. Also, he transferred from Plano West(same school as SoSo), so that he could shine in the private school leagues.
Currently A&M's recruiting strengths lie in the DFW Metroplex and Houston areas, it doesn't hurt that this is where most of the talent lies. Sumlin has put Beaty(our ace recruiter), in charge of the DFW area and it's really helping to drive Mack out.
Go Blue & Gig Em'!
Also, a guy that will really shower where the power in state lies is Myles Garrett. 5*stud that grew up a Texas fan. He's down to A&M and TCU, with most experts predicting him to commit to A&M sometime soon.

Good stuff. You are my Texas counterpoint.
I want SoSo in Ann Arbor so bad. Just because his name is SoSo.
Watch out for the MLB with Murray. Scott Boras is all over the kid already. I think his uncle may already be apart of Boras' agency.
I like talking Texas recruiting. It's rare that I get to do it on this board. Also, Kyler Murray's dad is a pretty well respected QB coach. He's actually working out with Jerrod Johnson(a former A&M QB) and trying to help him get back in the league. I'm really high on Kyler, he creates a lot with his feet and plays for a powerhouse program in the DFW area.
I think SoSo will drag it out and take his visits but in the end, I think it'll be tough to pull him away from Texas.
Just FYI, this line is a constant myth that gets kicked around every year from OSU fans: "Kids will follow this kid anywhere was what I was told."
First, Joey Bosa was supposed to lead a ton of Florida kids up to OSU. Then, Raekwon McMillan was going to lead a Georgia exodus to OSU. Now they're talking about Kyler Murray. It never happens, it's just wishful thinking that'll never materialize because practically no high-ranking recruits pick a school solely because they've got a friend there.
Kyler gets an A&M offer, he's an A&M lock. He's already so and his dad won't let him go anywhere else. I highly doubt that he'll end up at OSU.
Great stuff! I really like hearing about recruits in Texas as well and wish Michigan would get more involved down here especially in the DFW area it's loaded with talent and good to great coaching at the high school level.
TAMUW: do you think Manziel will really leave after next season, or do you think he stays through his (RS)JR year? Media seems convinced he'll go pro after next year.

Just my opinion, but he should stay in college as long as possible. His game is much more suited for the college game - a la Tim Tebow. He could easily go down as the greatest college QB to ever play the game if he stayed all 4 years, and he'll be even more beloved in College Station than he already is if he sticks around and tries to win a Natty. I understand making money, but I think he'll see his projections go like Tebow to the point where he'll need to stay and excel all 4 years just to make it into the first round.
I believe he'll stay another year. He loves Aggieland but I know that he's confident in his abilities and wants to compete at the next level. If he carries us to a natty this year then I think he goes pro.
There's plenty of talent in the DFW area. A team could build a top 5 team just off of the talent in the DFW area.
As TAMU stated with Murray, this kid is different from what I am told. As a Soph, this kid led his team to a state championship in TX. That's a big deal. Other kids love him.
TAMU is way more dialed in than my guy to the entire scene. My guy just trains these kids and gets their chatter. In the end, TX and TAMU allegiancies are hard to trump. But there are opportunities for other schools, and Michigan isn't doing a ton right now. They are trying though. OSU is doing way more. Urban's name carries weight down there.
For those interested, a very reliable poster on the GigEm board, came up with a short list of some of the top 2015 kids in TX. Here you go.

King Grizzley is Daylon Mack all starts with him. He and Malik Jefferson are the Kodiaks of the group.
Malik Jefferson is another King Grizzley (has any of you guys seen his track numbers?) this kid might be the freakish lb to come out in years. Hearing he's north of 6'2, north of 220, and running a flat 4.5 and jumps through the ceiling. Beast
Kendall Sheffield. Get this, his nickname is Cecil (Love it) a 6' 4.3 cb. Haven't had one in years. Antwuan Davis is a track guy, this kid can play.. kid's upside is through the roof http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE_QUuMEFkE
Soso Jamabo rb Plano (reminds me of a Bama rb) or Fournette. Go get him Sumlin. This is your every 3-4 year rb.
Deionte Thompson safety (SEC safety) he's not a cb although some have stated he is. Not a big 12 safety. He needs to play in the league
Larry Pryor safety . Fast fast and closes. I actually like him more than Thompson though Thompson has more length.
Jordan Davis te (commited to FSU) I'd like to see him work out as a te vs playing rec. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPrhEkTwAM0
Tristan Teuhema (not sure he's our kind of off lineman) but he's a beast and huge.
Chason Virgil qb or slot (at speed camp busted a 4.59 electronic) kid can play
Kyler Murray qb or slot
JW Ketchum as a outside receiver
Kingsley Keke richmond tx
anthony wheeler skyline
Rawleigh Williams Dallas Bishop Lynch (seen tape, go get the plano kid cobra)
James Locke Beaumont Central (can the young man qualify?)
Devonte Lampkin Cy Falls. Like his length for a dt
Jalen Campbell covered like a tent at the under armour camp. Can he do it on pads? not sure
Patrick Carr Woodslands rb
Demarkus Lodge Cedar Hill rec
Kameron Stubblefield Dallas So. Oak Cliff (love that school, is this Dana's son?)"
I guess it really is a different world down in Texas. I didn't understand half of those comments about the players...
He's a weird old dude but he does know his football. He's probably the person that I respect the most when it comes to TX football recruiting.
Thanks for those names TAMU; glad to know I've been contacting the right kids. Only a handful on there I haven't talked to at this point.
No prob. There will be more names that will pop up, I'll post them when they do.
I bet you Star has contacted all of them already and then some!!!
