The hump has been brutal- 2010 with OSU debacle, LY with the running into the P.. it hasn't been easy the last couple of years, that's for sure
For 2012, it's too early to tell. If Maxwell is decent and the WR's come along- I think MSU has a good shot. Think it'll come down to MSU/UM game.. Neb's conference schedule is real tough, so 5-3 for them seems likely.. I could see both MSU/UM at 6-2, so the h2h tiebreaker could come into play.
Also think the Leaders Division winner will be worse than either UM/MSU, so I'd put the winner of that game in the drivers seat for the Rose Bowl
Playing in a BCS bowl is relevent to being close to playing for a NC if you are using your, MSU was playing for a chance at a Rose Bowl in the last week.
Oh, so it likely will never happen for MSU. Thanks for clarifying.
Yea, Jandy is a pretty solid poster. He may come with a whopper of a story here and there, but overall brings quality discussion, even if I don't always agree with it. ;)
I'm not worried if those are our hardest away games. All of those teams will either be a trainwreck ala PSU, a step back from 2010-2011 ala MSU, or decent but not at the top of the league ala Iowa.
Stealing Sparty's recruits and owning them on the field since 1898
You're right, @PSU could be tough, we will see how well BOB coaches this year.
Admittedly, I don't know much about USC's build since several years ago, but Oregon really doesn't worry me. Obviously, it wouldn't be anywhere near a guaranteed MSU win, nor do I think MSU would be the favorite. But Oregon's composition doesn't match up as well against MSU as would Alabama or LSU, IMO. The thing with Alabama/LSU (Bama particularly) is that we value similar positions. Intimidating DL, rangy/play-making LBs, cover CB's that can put a fierce hit on a ballcarrier. The difference is that Alabama's players are all 1+ notch better than MSU's, with very few exceptions.
The only players that I think would have a chance to start at Alabama would be Gholston, Johnny5, and maybe Bullough and/or Lewis. Denicos Allen might be a contributor, as might Rush, but the simple fact of the matter is that they are stacked.
Actually that's far from the truth..
Being ranked #11 or #13 and getting a BCS bid doesn't mean that team is close to a National Title game.
But playing in the B1G title game or playing the last game of the season for a trip to the Rose Bowl would suggest they have a chance to make the Rose Bowl. a far better chance than a team ranked outside the top 10 does at a NT bid
When was the last time UM won @MSU or @Iowa
I've seen some lists where Wisconsin plays Michigan in the BTCG...and Wisconsin goes to the Rose Bowl, Michigan goes to the Capital One Bowl and Michigan State goes to the Sugar Bowl.
1. Rose Bowl
3. Trick a wolverine into thinking I'm a decent person
4. Make a cool million
I happened more recently than an MSU Rose Bowl appearance.
Glad you're staying on topic..
If Lewan and Toussaint come back, and the incoming freshmen live up to the hype, I could see us going 11-0 heading into the Ohio game.
Don't get ahead of yourself, poster =/= person.
Go Blue & Gig Em'!
also more recently than a UM Rose Bowl appearance...
boom sizzle zing
What about 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2006 when we were ranked inside the top 5/10?
And you were/do?
Michigan has been to more than one BCS Bowl.
I disagree. I don't see MSU going to the Rose this year. Next year it's all Ohio State unless Michigan can stop them. From there It's Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and then everybody else.
OK- how is that any different than MSU playing its last game for a trip to the Rose Bowl in 08, 10 or 11?
because we made it
This is a stupid argument. The only reason MSU is closer to a Rose Bowl than UM is to a NT is b/c of how difficult it is to get to the NT. Getting to the 'very good' level is only the first 1/4 of the journey. Cracking the 'elite' tier is where the bulk of the work is.
I'm sorry, I'm being a negative nancy, but this debate is so stupid it has me cringing with each word I type.

msucan'tmakebcs : We have an easy 2013 schedule as well. We play no difficult teams on the road that year.
Those are difficult road games
And you somehow brought that to MSU and not being in the Rose Bowl in Edit: 20ish years..
