IF (big if, please don't kill me jinx gods) we can get by Florida tomorrow, who would you rather see us play in the Final Four, Syracuse or Marquette? I didn't have either of these teams making this game in my brackets, so no rooting interest for me. Syracuse looked like worldbeaters vs. Indiana, but I like to think we could handle that zone a little bit better...
Marquette. Cuse's zone admittedly scares me
Why? Easy way to beat it is by having Burke or Hardaway drive the ball in and there will almost always be an open wing player. If that doesn't work, just give it to McGary down low and he'll have a field day.
Cuse's 2-3 zone this season, has more length and size than Boehiem(sp?) has ever had. Marquette is easily a better matchup for us. If Cuse is on, they're deadly.
Go Blue & Gig Em'!
Certainly worked out well for Indiana.
If Michigan isn't shooting the ball well against Cuse it would be lights out.
Of course, any game Michigan doesn't shoot well it's lights out.
Michigan just needs to be able to hit their open shots and draws fouls. Michigan just beat the #2 team in the nation last night, if they play up to their potential, they can beat Syracuse.
Big teams that rebound well scare me...so I'd rather play Syracuse. At least we have the shooters to make them pay in that zone.
"Those Who Stay...Will be Champions"
Syracuse is a team that currently hot and has great size on the perimeter, that could give our shooters trouble. I'd much prefer to see Marquette JMO.
Syracuse's zone doesn't scare me. I have faith in Coach B and our players to be able to handle it after a weeks worth of preparation.
What scares me most about Syracuse is our guys having to stay in front of Carter-Williams and Triche.
After looking at the numbers more closely and watching the first half of this game, I'd much rather see Marquette. I think we have a big big athleticism advantage over them, they're not a good shooting team from distance, and they have a lot less size on their roster than Syracuse does. The only thing that would bother me about them is the potential for them to body us inside, particularly in the Gardner/GR3 matchup, but I think our other advantages should make up for that.
If anyone cares, here are some basic numbers, per Kenpom:
Syracuse: #8 overall, #22 offense, #8 defense.
Marquette: #24 overall, #19 offense, #49 defense
Michigan vs. Marquette: 73-68 good guys, M with 66% chance of victory
Michigan vs. Syracuse: 69-68 good guys, M with 54% chance of victory
I'm also a Syracuse fan since I grew up near there, but I can honestly say that Michigan's best shot would be against Marquette. Syracuse's 2-3 zone is absolutely brutal on teams who haven't seen it before, especially against freshmen. While all of Michigan's freshmen have been playing well so far, there's no telling how they'll react to the 2-3 zone.
Honestly, I don't even care. The path is going to be brutal no matter what. I say we play all comers.
To be truthful, the only team that really scares me, if we are playing well, is Louisville...and I think we can beat them too.
Looking like a moot question now
Syracuse of course presents unique problems...ask Indiana. That said, you can break down their zone.
Right now ? Shocker Nation. ohio.
IF Michigan can get past FL, it will be very tough to get past Syracuse. I am not seeing it at this time. That 2-3 zone is rough and our Frosh will struggle.

I can't see anyone beating Louisville right now. They are firing on all cylinders.
Every team from Kansas on will be tough. There is no easy path the the NC. I also think this team want's to play the best team in the end. So it doesn't matter. And as McGary say's no matter who it is, they will come to "dominate." I like this teams swagger.
This is what everyone said against VCU's havoc defense as well.
Cube have pros though, but should be a good game
Barkley turning out to be right about Big10
I just wanna make the Final Four
Not even close.
