Better yet...I like Barner in the 3rd or 4th....great point. I heard the Lions GM likes drafting best available. I dont think the secondary is all that deep in this years class, so he would probably draft Teo or something.
I hope the Lions draft best available for their first pick and then come back in the early second or late first and pick up Tavon Austin to replace Best's role in the O.
Go Blue & Gig Em'!
Te'o will be gone before the Lions pick
Austin is more of a slot receiver/RB like Randall Cobb, McCluster, and Percy. Best was a scat back type. We need a guy like Barner or Gio Benard.
I know but as far as explosiveness goes, Austin is the most comparable to Best and he would add an incredible dimension to the Lions offense.
We don't need a MLB anyways. Tullouch is fine. We need a WLB to replace Levy, and so Durant doesn't have to play in our nickel. We can get Jelani Jenkins (UF) or Arthur Brown (KSU) in the 3rd or 4th.
I don't think Lewan goes before Barrett Jones of Alabama. Jones can play every position on the OL that clearly holds more value imo.

Only knock on Jones is his lack of elite athleticism.
But we already have Ryan Broyles and Mike Thomas as slot receivers. Austin can play some RB but he's a lot more effective in a hybrid role. Bernard is very similar to Best. Joseph Randal from OSU would be a nice pick up as well. Barner could be a poor mans version.
Yes he will. LT's are far more valuable then C/G's. Barhett Jones could play every position in college but he won't be able to in the NFL.
I don't agree he won the award for best offensive lineman in the country last year. Do you know what position he played last year?
He lacks elite athleticism to be a tackle at the next level. He struggles against speed on the edge.
Yes, I know he played LT last year, but it was a joke that he won that award last year. Matt Kalil was the best OL in the country. There's a reason why Saban moved Jones to C. You don't move elite LT's to center to get your best 5 on the field.
I don't agree. Why would he win that award playing LT? Extreme athleticism? He won the award against the best edge rushers in the country, in the SEC.
Watch the A&M game, he was abused by the speed rush all night long.
The only reason he won it last year is because he plays in the SEC. Matt Kalil was a much better player last year, and is on pace to become a All Pro in his rookie year. He's been better at his position than Luck and RG3 have been this year.
And he got dominated by John Jenkins in the SECCG. Bama only started having success running the ball when he and Warmack started doubling JJ.
Did Broyles tear the same ACL on Sunday that he did in college??
I'm pretty sure it was the other one.
Nah the other one. It's sad but there are plenty of cases where guys who have torn both still have successful careers. Frank Gore is a great example.
Latest FoxSports Mock Draft has Dee Milliner going #4 overall to Philly and look at the next pick (yikes):
5. Detroit Lions: Taylor Lewan, Offensive Tackle, Michigan*
Detroit took Riley Reiff in the first round last year and Gosder Cherilus in the first round a few years back. The line could use another blue-chip talent. If Milliner falls to Detroit, they could pounce. I don’t see them reaching for Te’o, as I’ve seen many mock drafts pegging them to do. At 6-foot-7, 310 pounds, the size is there with Lewan. He started 34 of 35 games at left tackle for the Wolverines a few miles away and adds some real toughness to an offensive line in desperate need of some bite.
The Lions better not take Te'o. We don't need an inside LB. We need an OLB who can pass rush or a lockdown CB. If Milliner's there, we'd better take him. If not, I could see us taking Damontre Moore from TAMU (as another mock draft had today) or Taylor Lewan. It depends on if we see Reiff as a LT or not.
Wow ..Top 10... they have him at #4 and another Guard going #8 ... Pure craziness.
David Decastro was a better prospect as a Guard and went 24th.

God, that's a reason right there for Lewan to come back for a fifth year. His career will be over before it ever begins.
I wouldn’t mind Lewan, but I think we’re going to end up with Bjorn Werner or Damontre Moore. I also think there’s a very good chance we pick up Jake Long, as a FA.
I think TL is going to end up being a Charger.
