- Brennen Beyer has moved to SAM
- Dymonte Thomas is playing nickel and cornerback
- Braden mentioned yet again as someone who looks good; Darboh/Chesson get some love too
- Bellomy looking good as well
- Wormley cleared for full activity
I don't remember- but how's beyer's speed again?
So that's roughly a full year for Wormley from ACL tear to getting cleared, iirc?
He injured his acl in mid August. 7 months to get cleared.
Not that good... Played last year after having a broken leg in the Nebraska game '11... Looked pretty sluggish but I think he will be able to spell Cam for a few snaps... Cam looked good in limited snaps last year... He is a really good athlete
and Wormley was still running around before he was cleared for full contact. That being said, If we end up struggling at SAM mid way through the season, Jake Ryan could be fully cleared by the MSU game, which is 7 months from now.
I don't believe Jake Ryan will need to overcome any confidence, or mentality issues. As long as his knee and rest of his body is healthy, the kid will perform.
That being said, I guess we'd have to find out how bad the tear was.
I didn't think he had much speed and will prolly struggle playin in space like Morgan. I've always been a Cam supporter - it's his year to step up!
Thomas at CB is a little bit of surprise, no? I thought he was a safety.
How does this translate?
- He's quicker and faster in person and the coaches think he is the best option at corner
- The other guys just aren't up to snuff and the coaches think he is the only option at corner
Heard the coaches like to start kids out at corner to see if they can cut it there... Jeremy Clark did last fall and got moved after... Such a premium to find guys that can play and lockdown as a corner you mind as well give everyone a shot there... Have to do your due diligence in finding the best combo at a given position and group.
Under Mattison, every defensive back will begin at cornerback and then move on from there.
Do you think Taco will get a look at SAM?
I would be very surprised if that happened. Taco is too big for SLB, IMO. Plus, with Beyer moving there, that opens up an opportunity for Taco to get some more playing time than before.
D Thomas at corner?i am fine with him getting some covering practice. He will be a safety when he is ready to be on the field full time. He could just be moving to nickel because our safeties are looking good but the coaches want him on the field somehow so they are going to test him out there and see if they can have him on the field as a freshman and our 2 safeties. D Thomas is best at run support anyway so this makes sense
To me it's a good thing for two reasons; one, they must feel comfortable with Gordon and whoever sits atop the depth chart on the other side at safety, likely Jarrod Wilson. Also, it means Dymonte has shown enough already this early to warrant early playing time.
Have you looked at moving anyone else to SAM?
“I didn’t look at moving anybody else, because we really only wanted two guys right there, and then we’ve got Lawson right there, that’s a good young kid that’s always gotten reps since last year, but you don’t need more than that. I feel confident with Cam and with Brennen.”
Do we have a walk-on named Lawson? or who the heck is Mattison talking about?
A walk-on, Mark Lawson.
Mark Lawson, RS FR walk-on. 6'2", 215. Looks like he's mainly for depth purposes, as he's a bit small for the position, but I assume he's learning it just in case we absolutely need our 4th-string SAM.
^This, it sounds like they want to find a way to get him on the field.
Same thing Bama does getting their best 5 on the field. They moved Sunseri down to nickle(who is in no way your prototypical CB) so they could find a way to get Clinton-Dix on the field.

Thanks guys! I have never heard of him. I thought it was a typo and was trying to figure who elses last name was spelled that closely. He must be perfoming though for GM to mention that he is right there with Gordon and Beyer.
