Why are all of you completely blaming just Borges and nobody else? Yes, Borges had some questionable calls today, but Hoke needs to realize when Borges is struggling and pick up a headset to do some playcalling himself.
It actually annoys me that Hoke doesn't wear a headset. So disconnected with what's being called and what's being said through the mics.
I agree. I'm not sure if he thinks his presence alone wins games. Brady and his ego stunk the place up today. UM has spent the year losing to lesser teams and going down with the ship using inferior game plans. Looks like we are back to being the Michigan of the Carr era. Greg Mattison has done a fine job and had the defense play well enough to win while the unimaginative, vanilla offense cost the team the game. We deserve better. BH looks like a slouch.
Hoke's spiel is getting old. "Our main goal is to win the Big Ten" " This is Michigan!"... Seriously dude how about we make the BTCG first and then worry about winning it. Next year is put up or shut up for him
If Michigan doesn't get 10 wins next season with the schedule we have, I will lose faith. This season was definitely disheartening and makes me question the future.
I don't want to just compete for B1G championships and have 1 or 2 losses every year, I want to compete for national championships.
Yea I would not have any issues if he let Mattison run the whole thing with no issues. But Borges sometimes needs to be reminded that isn't right.
This thread is pathetic, you guys are overreacting (especially sircharles11, that's not a spiel it's a goal. You're far too influenced by either the media and/or these message boards). Give Hoke some blame but you guys don't know shit about what he knows or doesn't know at these games. He's the head coach, he knows what's going on. If he felt disconnected or thought every word stated on the headset matters, he would put one on.
I know you all don't care about my opinion but although I can't stand hoke you need to let him prove what he can do with his own recruits. RR set you guys back.

Over the next few years, you are going to realize that Greg Mattison IS THIS TEAM and Hoke is just someone who is great for the Michigan community, recruiting, etc.
If I was Dave Brandon, I would pay this man top dollar because as long as he is around, Michigan's defense will be GOD TIER, especially with the talent we have coming in. When this man retires, it will be a scary day for Michigan football.
Go back to bucknuts. You know nothing about Hoke.
See you all next year! I must feel bad for the pain you're in because I can't believe I'm about to say this...... GoBlue ( in the bowl game)
Does it feel good being a douche?
So tell me fool. What team did we lose to had lesser talent. Name 1. Maybe when you LOOK at the teams we lost to you will realize what a pathetic statement you made. All on the road too btw.
How does he know? Honest question. If Borges is up in the pressbox, and Hoke is on the sideline without a headset how does he know?

There's actually a bit of a worrisome tendency tho. Hoke is 14-0 at home, 1-1 at neutral site games, but a pretty bad 4-5 on the road.
In comparison Lloyd Carr won 42 out of 64 on the road or something in that ballpark, so it's not like it's completely normal for Michigan to be around or even below .500 on the road. So we better hope that these first two seasons aren't harbingers of things to come.

There's someone wearing a headset who stands next to him the entire game. I think it's an assistant. I know that sounds a bit ambiguous and unpersuasive, but he literally has someone whose job is to shadow him with a headset and he gets whatever message he wants across at all times. Hoke is not going to call every offensive play. How many head coaches do? But when Hoke wants something specific, he picks up the headset and states his point. When a coach needs Hoke, he's an arms-reach away from the headset. If it's something small, his shadower relays the message. Then for the majority of the time Hoke is not needed on the headset, he is not being distracted and focuses on the on-field activities.
I know they show Hoke from time to time on national television and he's just standing on the sideline, but that's entirely misleading. I've noticed they usually show him when something is being discussed by the refs, while every one else is also waiting to figure out what's going on. Again, I'm not saying he doesn't deserve any blame (of course he does) but people making (inaccurate) rash assumptions because we lost a couple of close games is insensible.
Edit: And think about what not wearing a headset would lead to. It does not affect our schemes or execution, which is where we're lacking. It would affect our communication, and our coaches would be out of sync. Our coaches are always on the same page. They are all questioned on the game plan at post-game conferences and I would bet against hearing Hoke say "Al had a mind of his own today, I wish I could have shared my two cents". If we started to see persistent issues with communication or blown-situations, then I'd understand the complaint. But right now people are arguing just to argue.

Ah, ok. Thanks for explaining that.
they went 8-4 this year guy’s. Some of you are acting like were Auburn right now. We knew when Hoke came here that his strengths were D Line coaching and recruiting. Every where’s he’s been he’s let his coordinator’s do their jobs. He’s not an offensive play caller, it’s not his strength as a coach.
Two years ago this team got embarrassed by Mississippi State. Were you guys really expecting this team to compete for NC’s in year two? If anything, I think were ahead of schedule. Were probably not going to be competing for NC’s with premier SEC teams for another 3-4 year’s. Program’s take time to build.
Two of this team’s loses this year came to NC teams. One was against probably the eventual B1G champ, in a game that one of this team’s best player’s went down with an injury, and the fourth was to an undefeated team. How have we lost to lesser teams? You could probably make a case that Michigan has had one of if not the hardest schedule in the country this year.
Have some game’s been closer than they should have been this year and has this team had some luck in those victories? Yes, but again this only year two. Does Hoke deserve some blame? Of course it’s his team, and his staff. But you guys are expecting way too much, too soon. If you want to blame Hoke for something, blame him for not going to DG sooner and not convincing DR that DG gave this team its best chance to win at QB, and that he would of gave this team’s its best chance to win (and best prepare him for his NFL future) in a Randle Cobb at UK role playing WC QB, RB, and WR.
I know it hurt’s to see OSU go undefeated and win “The Game”, but that team has played no one this year, and if they receive any AP #1 votes after the season it would be a joke. They would get destroyed by Bama just like Michigan did.
The season is not over yet. This team still has a bowl game left, which is probably going to be against a strong opponent.
Notre Dame is two years removed from getting embarrassed by Navy and Tulsa and they are in the National Championship game.
I know what you are saying, but you gotta understand that it's a cut throat world out there and it's only getting harsher. With Meyer at OSU and Notre Dame legitimately a good team, there isn't much room for error if we want to be relevant again on the national stage (which still is the expectation for Michigan). How many recruits have we lost to Notre Dame while they were a trainwreck, so if those two teams genuinely can compete for NCs in the foreseeable future, we can't be far behind or we will further behind every year.
Obviously I'm not saying Hoke needs to go and unless next year is a losing season I don't think he should be on the hot seat any time soon, but we also need to understand the scenario. Nobody significant cares how we compare to Rich Rod's Michigan, what matters is how we compare to Urban Meyer's Ohio State, Brian Kelly's Notre Dame and other significant national players. It's maybe unfair but it is what it is.
You people do realize that the Big Ten sucked this year right? And we still missed the game.
at some of you giving Hoke 4-5 years. Next year is must win
Ok good comparison. Carr was 16-8 after 2 years. With a team he helped recruit. Hoke is 19-6 with a game left. He didn't recruit any of the senior leaders. Would you say you guys are rushing to judgment! Just a tiny bit! Well I will! You people are rushing to judgment & you look foolish.
How many people were screaming for brian kelly's job a year ago. How foolish do they look now? Look in the mirror! For anybody to say Michigan is heading in the wrong direction is foolish.
QFT. People that think Hoke just sits on the sidelines and watches the game like a regular spectator are idiots. He has assistants with headsets all around him that let him know exactly what's going on like you said.
It's so weird that when it comes to Michigan basketball we are talking about a national championship because now Michigan has "big time talent" that can win it all. But when it comes to football that same principle doesn't apply.
Eh, when was the last time we won a Big ten title. That's the last time I felt we had any right to talk about national championship possibilities.
