The season starts up next week and the Tigers open up against the Boston Red Sox at home. All MLB fans feel free to post in here whatever you thoughts on the season or little tidbits of info from other teams. I'll try to post daily lineups, news, and trades in here as much as I can but in the summer if you want to switch over to daily threads for big games and stuff we can.
Looks like the 25 man roster is pretty much set with Drew Smyly winning the 5th spot in the rotation over Andy Oliver along with a few others. Personally I wish we would have signed a vet or traded for an experienced pitcher but the market was thin this year so it's understandable. Also for all you Inge lovers out there, it may be that we've seen the last of Inge in a Tigers uniform as there is almost no way he makes the team over Danny Worth, actually he shouldn't have even had a chance to win it in the first place. Andy Dirks has played really well this spring but he is going against one of Leyland's players in Clete Thomas, who has played good defense but is an awful hitter. I believe Luis Marte and Colin Balester won the last two bullpen spots, which is awesome because Balester can make spot starts if needed.
Here are some great sites all Tigers fans should read. Also there will be an array of links at both Bless You Boys and Motor City Bengals.

Detroit Tigers - Talk about the Detroit Tigers!
Brandon Inge has been cut, he is optioned to Toledo unless someone picks him up in the waiver wire (Doubtful).
Do you actually think he will go to Toledo again?
Also, what expectations do you have for Smyly this year?
Buster Olney said that he predicts the Tigers will win their division by twice the next biggest margin.
He really likes this team. Also said that he expects Cabrera to win MVP.
It's exciting and all that to be considered this good but god i hate when my teams i like have such big expectations going into the year.
No I think his ego is so big he will think he'll be able to make another squad.
Only 22, he needs to take care of that arm. I really hope he is ready for the Bigs. 11 wins with a sub 4 ERA

My expectations are he will be a solid back of the rotation starter probably sitting in the 10 to 12 wins range and having a 3.5ish ERA.
I think one of JV or Cabrera will win the MVP and Brennan Boesch is going to explode this year. Boesch doesn't miss fastballs and that's all he's going to get this season.
With a 3.5ish ERA and this Tiger offense i would expect more than 10 to 12 wins.
I love Boesch but i am getting a little concerned with all the back and neck issues he has been having. I know there hasn't been anything major yet but the twinges and spasms in the back and neck cause me concern.
Baseball offense are inconsistent so one night they'll score 10 runs then the next 2 making wins so times are to come by. Also his innings will probably be semi limited and he won't get a ton of opportunities to go deep into games where the score can change quickly.
Eh, I don't think they are much to worry about.
I hope you are correct.
For everyone who thinks we have no future because of a weak farm system, it isn't nearly as weak as you think. The Tigers have a lot of players who will contribute at the Major league level and a few high upside guys to compliment those players. The pitchers in our system tend to be all high upside pitchers but we have a few solid pitchers with little upside but can contribute right away, like Drew Smyly and a slew of relievers. We drafted a kid last year in the 15th round named Tyler Gibson who is an outfielder with a bunch of physical tools but also is a contact hitter, a great foundation to build upon. I think Gibson will be a special player but could either be a bust or a Matt Holiday all depending on how he adapts to Major League stuff.
Cant wait til Thursday.
You guys and I have one thing in common in regards to sports. Detroit Teams. Go Tigers!!! Gonna be a big year!
Want my soul to feel brand new like a fresh coat of paint, we can make it anything but blue anything but blue
Oh yeah, no doubt. This may be the year we win it all.
I find it entertaining how you have that 15 yard personal foul as your sig pic. IIRC that was a huge penalty that helped us win.
But I'm so excited for this baseball season. Tigers are gonna do some fun stuff.
Ha ha very true. It is a nice picture though, besides that tidbit.
The lineup is just gonna be balls out. That was our problem with Texas last year in the playoffs. They just had power after power in their lineup and we couldn't keep up. Not anymore. Bring it on bitches!
I think a lot of that had to do with injuries. Boesch was out. Avila, VMart, and Young seemed to be hanging on by a thread. Fielder should really help out in that department though. Excited to see what he can do in a Tigers uniform.
We're really going to need Laird to be at least halfway decent so Avila can get some days off.
Opening day tomorrow boys, Verlander on the mound versus Lester, truly a great matchup. I'm going to predict this here, Prince will go 2-4 tomorrow and Jhonny Peralta will hit a homerun in his first at bat.
Good match up, i'm feeling a sweep to start the season boys. What's season your prediction for Fielder and Cabrera? PF- .290-40-105 CB-.340-35-130
