Semi-long article, but really good read if you have the time.
Notre Dameo learned first of the death of his grandmother, Annette Santiago, and then of the death of his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua.
At first I was just gonna say this is stupid...
"The photographs identified as Kekua—in online tributes and on TV news reports—are pictures from the social-media accounts of a 22-year-old California woman who is not named Lennay Kekua. She is not a Stanford graduate; she has not been in a severe car accident; and she does not have leukemia. And she has never met Manti Te'o."
wtf? That's really weird. No record of her birth, accident, enrollment, or death?
You HAVE to be chitting me.
Used a photo from someone else's Facebook account?
Actually I'd love to see a Domer's opinion on this.
I felt like this article was going to be a load of BS, but that's effed up that Manti went to the extent he did with this. Props to Deadspin for getting all this information, though.
Im still laughinh. I saw that on dradspin earlier. Unreal
This some crazy ish if its true.

Hmm, over on IrishEnvy they're..."confused" and "mind blown."
Looks as if this was pretty thoroughly researched by Deadspin.com (which one would assume it had to have been for them to post it).
Holy crap man.
OK, Deadspin is a real site, so I am willing to give them a little leeway...but really? Is anyone else confirming anything about this?
If this is fake, Deadspin will be out of business after the libel lawsuit.
Either Deadspin or Te'o will get a HUGE backlash from this.
There's no way I'd want to draft Te'o after this if it's true.
It’s sad that it has to be a site like Deadspin, to report something like this. ESPN, SI, NBC etc. just kept reporting this propaganda over and over, without checking the facts.
Jarvis Jones need’s to get those awards back. At least he didn’t take the Heisman away from JFB.
Well, I reserve judgement...but, yeah.
That's the thing - Deadspin had to have been really, really sure about this to publish it, because if they're wrong, they'll get crucified.
I'm inclined to believe it, and I bet a lot of NFL execs will believe it too.
Te'o should enter the Tour de France...he's appears to having the lying part down. Now it is only a matter of the proper juice intake. If true it means he has to go to the Raiders or the Bengals...day 2 of the draft.

Full ND statement per Dan Murphy at BGI: On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te’o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators.
I call BS. Either Manti Teo was in on this, or he's beyond stupid.
I'd have to agree. The statement seems pretty implausible.
Why did they wait so long to post this. I smell some BS.
Wow. Okay...that clears things up.
They must be joking. There's no way Te'o didn't know.
Gotta love ND covering up for their golden boy.
Has anyone seen that show catfish? Maybe Teo was in an online relationship with someone and they werent rly who they claimed to be? ( maybe a fake profile type thing ) Idk, just a thought. No matter what the reason, it will b very embarassing for him if his "girlfriend" never really died.
my first thought as well, but Teo is quoted as saying the met "in person" after the stanford game in 2009. That pokes a pretty big hole in that story. The whole thing is nuts.
Your average UofM fan and I have something in common, neither of us went to UofM. Though we do share One major difference, I got Accepted.
This is one of the craziest stories I ever seen in sports. I can't believe that nobody fact checked this sooner. Crazy.
I don't know what else to do but laugh at this whole thing. So bizarre.
Anything to win the heisman!
Lol at ESPN and ND
