Althiugh vail is gettung hit with 10 to 20 in right now
There were open a few times. There were open all last week until Saturday when it started raining. It's supposed to snow and stay cold this weekend. So I'm betting they open back on Monday. They've only had 3-5 runs open thus far.
I have family out near Cannonsburg in Grand Rapids, I hear their getting hit pretty hard over there. Might head there on the 29th, which starts my 6 day weekend for New Years
I'll be out there next week!
Brutal! Let me know when it opens.
And also, skiing is the new snow boarding. No one out west is boarding anymore. Skiing is cooler, runs are more accessible and easier to get down the hill lol(although, its much harder to be a become a good skier the boarder)
I skied cannonsburg a ling time ago once. It is of the same nature as a mt. holly. Detroit sucks for snow...but the west side gets HAMMERED.
Im going to need a FULL report, ok?
Been a few years, but I always liked Breckenridge and Keystone. Especially Keystone where you can go to the top and ski the ridge.
Yes, sir. If i survive NYE in Vegas
We were thinking about driving to a few other places
Sounds like a tough life for you an your ol lady
Gotta live it up before the kids come
I've tried both, Skiing was a lot easier for me. I have a lot more fun Snowboarding though. Skied a couple of times before snowboarding.
They'll post how snow making progress is going, what time they're open, and when they expect to be open. I check their site daily. They should be open soon. Supposed to be getting a good snowstorm on Friday.
That would be great if we did
I know, I get a 6 day weekend starting Dec. 29th. I want to go boarding at least 4 of those day. Probably just going to hit up Holly and Alpine Valley.
Is there a good amount of snow out west right now?
I've heard they're getting pounded with snow. They're predicting 8-10" for Friday around SE Michigan.
They should definitely send some of that out east, we're 60 inches below average accumulation at this point.
It think it's actually snowed once so far this season. Hopefully this storms lets a lot down and it stays. I want the slopes to be open and to have a lot of runs open.
We've had a couple snow storms, but nothing has sticked. Most of the base is from snow making.
Not going to get that much . Probably about 2", but it will be enough for Mt. Holly to open by next weekend. Which is when I need it too. They'll probably be open by Wednesday or Thursday of next week.
Maybe not, this rain is really hurting us
Yep, this rain is killing us. I can see most, if not all the base Holly has built up will be gone before the snow starts. But it's supposed to be in the low 20s at night all week. They'll be making snow, and have enough to open up by mid week next week. They don't take long to make up enough snow for a 12-14" base. They've done it in three nights.
We're getting snow by late night today, and tomorrow morning.
I just hopes it's enough.

Just a visiting Gamecock and I hope you guys don't mind my .02 worth. To Joe, I love Breck and Keystone but don't forget Copper Mountain. You better be ready too if you are on the ridge at Keystone. To the original op, Vail is cool, great bar life and expensive, but not as much $$$ as Aspen. Vail and their sister resort Beaver Creek have some long trails, but I love the little known Telluride with it's 4400 ft. vertical drop.Their max trail is 4.6 miles long, so pack a lunch.76% of their trails are are intermediate or advanced/expert and you can stay mountainside for around $110-$150 per night which is pretty reasonable. I have skied all over Colorado in about 18-20 trips and never had a bad experience. Good luck!
