Again, people seem to be missing the point. The Alabama loss doesn't tell us we are an 11-1 team. But it doesn't tell us we are an 8-4 team either. It really doesn't tell us much of anything at all other than we are not currently in the same league as Alabama. Just like the next two games -- AF and UMass -- won't tell us much either. They are all outliers. We really won't know how bad (or good) we are until at least the ND game.

I agree that we don't know a lot about the team at this point and won't until the ND game, but the 11-1 assumption would basically be that if we had scheduled Eastern Michigan instead of Bama we'd go undefeated and I find that pretty much unbelievable.
No disrespect to the T/S .. but this thread is really embarrassing. We lost and got outplayed. Like someone earlier said .. lets learn from it and move on.
I'm not sure how my thread got turned into a moral victory by some people. My comment says we were out of sync and off the field just as quick as we came on. I'ts not like I started a thread to brag about scoring 14 points or gaining 235 yards, I just wanted some verification.

I can see why my wording was confusing.
I want us to get to the 20+ points in this game because I knew that Alabama had consistently held every opponent but one in under 20 points in 2011. And surprisingly, the exception was Georgia Southern - a FCS team.
So I should have worded it as "I wish our offense could've scored another TD and gotten us to at least 20 points."

Alabama also didnt start their conference schedule till game 4 of last years season so that's three more weeks of defensive gelling that they had last year that they didnt against you. A better comparison would be penn state in week two of last years season (even though they had a poor offense overall). This alabama defense with all it's new starters will most likely be significantly better in week 4 than now. Here's hoping they are the best team around though because if it gets much better than that the big will be irrelevant for a while.
I honestly think the 14 points Michigan got are worth hanging your hat on. Not for moral victory sake, but for two reasons:
- Denard got beaten around in that game and kept picking himself up off the mat. He didn't change his determination or his game one bit. Down 31-0 after throwing a horrible INT, he stepped right up and bombed one 71 yards down the field
- Both of those scores came against our 1s. Bama is known for putting in the scrubs early on defense, and a lot of yards and points we give up come from that. Michigan earned both of their TDs. And sure, it may not be the same 2011 defense that may have been the greatest ever. But it's still a Nick Saban defense.
