I read somewhere that Michigan had more yards & points on Alabama than any SEC team last year. Can anybody verify this? Our offense was out of sync, and off the field just as quick as it came on, I can't imagine that they were more successful than the entire SEC last year against Bama's D.
According to rolltide.com we tied Auburn and Arkansas in terms of points (14).
#8 Michigan (2012) ... 14 pts / 269 yds
#14 Arkansas ... 14 pts / 226 yds
#12 Florida ... 10 pts / 222 yds
Vanderbilt ... 0 pts / 190 yds
Ole Miss ... 7 pts / 141 yds
Tennessee ... 6 pts / 155 yds
#1 LSU ... 9 pts / 239 yds
Mississippi State ... 7 pts / 131 yds
#24 Auburn ... 14 pts / 140 yds
#1 LSU (BCSCG) ... 0 pts / 92 yds
Edit: #9 MSU (2010) ... 7 pts / 171 yds

And if you listen to the SEC lovefest in the media, Arkansas has one of the best offenses in the country.
Nice breakdown, you beat me to it. And you can bump Ole Miss points from 10 down to 7.
Oops, sorry. Fixed. Thanks.
Auburn's two scores were not scored offensively. One was a fumble recovery for a TD and one on special teams.
God, give me patience today. If given strength I may beat someone to death.
That 2011 team was special.
The 2012 version of the Crimson Tide will be really good but not #1 in every category the way that defense was. The difference this year is our offense should be downright scary for anyone to face and the defense will get better every week.
I thought Bama
Played very sloppy in the 2nd half lots of room for improvement..
We will get better just not quite there yet.
Roll Tide, good luck this year...
I would take this with a grain of salt.
The Bama defense from last year and the Bama defense from this year are different animals.

Yes and No. And you can't discount the impact of the offense. But somehow I have a feeling Bama's stats for 2012 are going to look very similar to their stats for 2011. We will just have to wait and see.

I concede that we won't know where this Bama team ranks until this season is over but I don't expect this Bama defense to produce 3 1st rounders, 1 2nd rounder, and 2 5th rounders.
However, I do expect this year's Bama offense to produce a number of high draft picks.
I didn't post it to make you feel better. I posted it to help answer the OP's question.
Pretty simple: This isn't last year's D.

I wish that our offense could have scored one TD. Heck, I'd even settle for a FG.
That would've been a minor victory.

Didn't they score two TD's?
Yeah... No clue what that post meant
I realize people are down and need something to cling to but this really isn't it. 2012 isn't 2011 and we really have no idea where we are as a team.
They always say that playing cream puff opponents to start the year doesn't really help you in figuring out where you are, I guess we now have found out that this also applies if you are said cream puff opponent.
A lot of those yards came on only a couple plays. Lets admit we didn't play well, our coaches were out coached, learn from it and move on.
You guys are missing the point. NO ONE looks good against Bama. Auburn's 14 points last year came on a fumble recovery and special teams. And LSU, a team that dominated everyone they played last year including Oregon (P12 champ), WVU (BE champ and hung 70 on Clemson in the Orange Bowl) and Georgia (SEC East champ), couldn't get the ball into the endzone at all against Bama despite playing them twice. In game one they had to settle for three FGs and in game two they were shut out and literally couldn't move the ball past the 50 yard line. I am not saying we played well or didn't make mistakes. I am not saying we looked good. But it's a huge mistake to take too much away from this game. Alabama has made a lot of very good teams look as bad or worse than we did Saturday night.
Who cares, they scored more, UM lost, no moral victories
The problem with 'no one looks good' argument is...that means we remain a tier or two below the Alabamas, LSUs, and USCs of the world.
I do agree with the statement that we should not over react. No one I respect thought honestly we would win this game But we should have played better.
I think offensively, this about says it all:
“I thought with the running back being out, I thought (Robinson) would’ve got more touches, because he’s a playmaker, he’s a good athlete, good player,” said Alabama linebacker Nico Johnson. “And I don’t know, it was a shock.”
Borges needs to realize what weapons he has, and not wish that Denard wasn't Denard.
We ARE a tier below. But so is nearly everyone else. We are recruiting extremely well and have great coaches, but we are at least 2-3 years away from competing with Alabama. And we still can win every remaining game on our schedule. ND is not Alabama. UNL is not Alabama. Ohio is not Alabama. If we do a similar face plant against any of those teams. I will be very surprised.
I do not remember Michigan ever starting off well. Outside of the RR era this is usually our worst game of the year. We almost always win because of the opponent not our performance.
I think we will get better and better every week. Countess is gonna hurt though.
I think we could easily lose 3-4 of our remaining games as well. I don't think there's anything in the Bama game that tells us we're a 11-1 team, even if the Tide are the best team in the country.
There's a tempting narrative here to crown Bama and call them a NFL team and basically say, yeah well everyone would have lost by at least 28 points to them and dismiss the fact that our team certainly has notable flaws which could be a problem against a number of other teams on our schedule as well.
