Even after losing 4 out of 5 starters.
The interior can't get much worse.
The 1997 team had RS freshmen start all 12 games at LT (Backus) and LG (Hutchinson), and had a RS freshman start 2 games at RG (Brandt).
Week 2 is going to be very tough for the OL playing against ND. With Nix returning they are going to have a very good DL, so only having 1 game for our new starters to play prior to that is going to be a challenge. Somewhat scary to think we might see RS Fr (Mags) - RS Fr (Kalis) - RS So (Miller) - Walkon or RS So (Burzynski, Glasgow?, Bryant) - RS SR (Schofield) as the line with 4 of the 5 only starting 1 game before ND comes to town.
That is a scary thought. Makes me think of the 2007? Michigan/ND matchup where Michigan just destoryed the ND line and Clausen.
I actually have been making this argument. I think losing TL will hurt, but the other positions are probably upgrades. It really is a question as how they gel as a unit. I think overall we will be better, if for no other reason that now we will be basically a pure manball team.
Thank god we have a QB with some mobility still.
Lewan is gone obviously, but at least we have some talented players coming in.
IMO line is.
Schofield - Kalis - Miller - Bryant - Braden with Mags, Bars, and Bosch being our main subs.
If Magnuson is college-ready, I would much prefer seeing him at LT and Schofield back inside.
Not a fan of Schofield at tackle, if he is force to play LT that will be a bad sign. He's a very good run blocker, but he just doesn't have the ability to stop good pass rushers.
Ditto for seeing Mags at LT, but I'd rather see Schofield at RT unless both Braden and Mags are ready to tear it up. The idea of starting two RS Fr at the tackles kinda scares me.
