I agree. Burke underperforming forced our role players to step up. Could pay dividends against a team like VCU that will force us to beat them as a cohesive unit.
Not that it's surprising, but the Sparty thread on this game was pathetic (relative to other RCMB threads). They went on for 3 pages about burke being a pus*y for faking an injury since his head never hit the floor. Apparently they don't know what whiplash is.
Now that we won you've got nothing to say.
Well, "best case" would have been Burke getting his normal 19 and us winning by 25+...but yeah, if the other players are at anywhere near this level for the rest of the tournament I feel really good.
I'd just like to point out there's a SIXTEEN page thread on RCMB on Michigan vs. SDSU.
It went from SDSU is dominating -> Shit, Michigan's gonna win -> VCU will dominate Michigan on Saturday.
best thing about this win is the whole game trey wasn't himself but other guys stepped up and took care of business.
If the rest of the team can play like they did today and Trey get's back to form we can be a very dangerous team going forward.
So glad we won this first game.
edit: I just saw steve's post, I agree this was the best thing that could happen for the other guys. Give them confidence, we all know that Trey wont loose it after one game.

VCU has to beat Akron first.
Second half ball movement and defense was much better. In the first half we stood around a lot on offense but in the second, even the players without the ball were moving. Makes us much harder to defend that way. Our defense looked more aggressive in the second half. Only thing I didn't like was Horford is to slow getting back to his man on the high pick and his guy got several sideline shots in a row. This team wasn't really capable of beating us one on one so I'm not sure why we kept switching so much. Barkley was talking about our lack of inside presence and shooting jumpers in the post game. Dude, we were in transition, driving to the basket and our bigs did produce inside points tonight. If we can get that then our open game will be hard to stop. Good first win.
lol Sparty, you'd think they could put their complex aside for the sport they're successful in butnahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
We are gonna have our hands full with this VCU squad. They move well on offense, have some athletes pounding the glass, and run that press (which isn't really a huge concern).
We need our A game Saturday.
What's the big difference in VCU an a team like Arkansas? Or perhaps that TN team a few years ago that we beat by 30? I think if you successfully attack a press over and over then you take away what they are good at. We shouldn't just survive the press and then hold the ball because that let's their defense set again. What makes them more successful than some of the other pressing teams?
Morgan barely played and we won by 15. See what good things happen when he's on the bench?
Refreshing to see GR3 go off as well. I'm rewatching game
Arkansas is more of an uptempo team than VCU. They just try to beat you by going 100 mph. VCU plays disciplined defense, get a ton of turnovers, and take a ton of 3 point shots. There's a reason they lead the nation in steals. They know how to pressure the ballhandler

Best stealing team in the nation versus least turnover prone team in the nation.
That is the story for the next game.
