Well, I remember my confidence level dropped notably yesterday when they did those ESPN interviews with both coaches and they asked Beilein/Pitino how the moment they win the national title would feel. Pitino answered coolly that he basically doesn't even think about that stuff, that it's all about focusing on Michigan and winning now. Beilein welled up and could barely get a coherent answer out, you could tell how overwhelming this is given where he started out at.
I don't wanna pin it on Beilein at all, but obviously Pitino has had *vastly* more experience with this situation and was less likely to be influenced by the occasion.
This is a really good point. I think the whole team was caught up in the experience. This is a double-edged sword. Big time game experience sometimes requires losing to gain and grow. Next year may be 1 step back to make it 2 steps forward.

Great season UM, thanks for the memories & the tourney run. Keep that head/chin up, nothing but proud of these kids & the coaching staff. !
Thank you Bball team for a great season! I know had my doubts early on this year and they totally proved me wrong at the end. Not going to blame it on any one individual tonight, it's a team game and we came up a bit short tonight. This team proved that Michigan basketball is back now and for the future. Not rebuilding next year if we lose anybody to the NBA just rebuilding for another run. One last thing to all the haters out there bashing Michigan for losing tonight, how far did you make it? Yea I'm looking at you sparty and your fans for filling up my phone with random bus texts
Something brought up on another board about the Burke decision at the end of the 1st half...
Did you trust those refs to not call a BS foul on Burke in the last couple of minutes?? Look at his clean block foul on Siva...that could have happened in the 1st half and then we're questioning why Burke was back in while we were up 12/still in the lead to end the 1st half. And that's not to blame the refs for the lost because we flat out didn't play well enough, didn't make enough free throws, didn't rebound well enough in the 2nd half.
I think leaving Burke on the bench was the right call.

The foul called on this incredible clean block will haunt me forever...
The ref that made the egregiously bad call should not be allowed to participate in another Final Four game. Ever.

* * * N E O . R E T R O * * *
Whatever idiot is complaining about the refs can go back to the MSU board. They called fouls on UL, we just couldnt hit our free throws. Grow some balls and stop whining. If we didnt have our center guarding the 3 line he wouldnt have picked up his 4th. UL is a better team and has a better coach, simple as that. Oh and if THJ goes to the draft he will be lucky to get picked.
Congratulations Michigan, hard fought game, great season...keep ya heads up!
There's some questionable stuff in this post.
What do you mean our center was guarding the 3 line? He was in a pick and roll situation with Hancock having the ball. Do you want him to sag off and give him an open 3?? It's a bad foul pick up but to say "He was guarding the 3 line" is asinine when the only reason he was that far out was because he was involved in the pick and roll.
Also, Coach Beilein did not manage the end of either half well...
As brilliant as he looked in managing the comeback against Kansas, Coach Beilein made a number of questionable decisions in the final minutes of both halves...
For instance, he should've pulled Burke (who had 4 fouls) and instructed his players to foul immediately when there was 50 seconds left in the game. Instead, we let 13 seconds come off the clock.
We were not going to force a steal against a team that knows the value of not turning the ball over against pressure.
It would've been wiser to extend the game...

That was an awful defensive game plan. Period.
They repeatedly went over the top of screens set for Siva when the guy can't hit an outside jumper to save his life. Yet they didn't jump out on screens set for Hancock, and left him to help on the guys they were allowing to penetrate.
Wichita State laid out the blueprint to slow them down, and we played man to man almost the entire game, when we haven't stopped anybody that doesn't rely on the 3 with a pulse pretty much for the entire year.
Michigan did miss a lot of chances at the line and defense/rebounding was particularly bad the last 24 minutes. However, this was a game where both teams played well and deserved to win. The effort was there and both teams fought hard.
I don't think the refs lost the game for us but the officiating in this game was terrible. It wasn't like we were on the wrong side of a lot of 50/50 calls. They were blowing calls on both sides that were blatantly obvious to anyone who has ever watched a basketball game.
Says the man who spends half his time on tRCMB....most are not solely blaming the officiating for the loss. However, they are stating that it was poorly officiated across the board.
Next time do not say that people should go back to the MSU boards when you spend half your time there picking ridiculous arguments.
Would you prefer to be the pot or the kettle in this instance?
The refs were horrible.
But that is not why we lost.
Yea, tOSU played great last night
I have no problem playing our fight song for Louisville...they won and deserved it.
Are you guys going to do script Wichita State? Please.
It was very disappointing last night but the team played their hearts out and I'll always remember the thrills of this tourney run and the anticipation for yesterday night! It's always hard to get back but the ship is steered in the correct direction. Go Blue!
"We're here to preserve democracy, not practice it." Go Army! Go Blue!
The only foul I'm pissed about is the one where Hancock fouled a UM player, but they gave the foul to some dude who wasn't even involved in the play.
If they had given that foul to Hancock, that would've been his 4th and Pitino would have taken him out. But since he didn't get the foul, he got to stay in and bomb some 3s.
Be careful I got dv'ed for saying the exact same thing lol.
I got ya covered +1

Exactly. As well as the fouls on Burke. Most people don't realize how big of an impact one call can have on a game, particularly a call with lots of time left. People just don't understand the butterfly effect.
Upvoted both of you.
