Has to be a breath of fresh air for traditionalists. There's so much shadiness in college basketball and recruiting with AAU coaches and such. It has to be refreshing for all the clean teams and old school coaches that Michigan is winning with good, clean talent. Beilein and staff run their program the right way on and off the court. Never is their mention of shady recruiting or AAU connections to this program. They play a multi faceted style of ball that is very fun to watch and involves "team play". Even the most hated of rivals now know that Beilein is extremely talented with excellent coaching to boot. With all the Kentucky (not the only one) 5 star type recruiting and programs that are on the shadier side of things in a variety of capacities, I'm sure it's refreshing for a lot of people to see a clean, ethical coach leading a team of high character players as one of the best teams in the nation. These kids are well spoken, high character and team players and I'm proud to be watching this team succeed the "right way". This type of team restores my faith in college basketball somewhat. Go Blue!
Right on Jordan! I couldn't agree more, Beilein is a great coach and better person. I'm so excited about Michigan basketball right now!
These are the type of teams I've always wanted here, the ones that have really good seasons and are top ten all year with a legit shot at a NC. We may never win one but I think from now on Beilein will have a team capable of making that run. That's what is exciting, you have good seasons and get to the tourney with that chance to take it all. Thanks to all those that helped build this program to what it is today and may we never look back.
The past two years have really been the first time in my life where I've genuinely not been able to wait for the next game. Bright things coming in the future!
For the job he has done in rebuilding the Michigan program to national prominence, Coach Beilein deserves to win a National Championship.

This year is def that way for me. The years to come will be the same. Three days in between games are killer. That 20th to 29th stretch is Dec was awful lol.
I agree wholeheartedly but unfortunately it doesn't always end up that way. Hopefully the good side wins out this time around and he gets him a NC before he's done. Program on the rise....
Comical. Sparty has a whole thread dedicated to UM vs Iowa basketball. http://michiganstate.247sports.com/Board/93/UM-vs-Iowa-15557243/1
Seems Sparty believes we are not that good, not worthy of our ranking, and we generally suck.

From a poster called fishrose: "You're a dumbass. They're going to lose some of those road games. That is pretty much a given. Looking at that schedule, they have the potential to lose all of them, but I don't think that's likely to happen. I would not be surprised if they lost all those games, but I would be fucking shocked if they won all of them. Is that so hard to understand?
They can probably handle Wisconsin. There's no way in hell they'll bring down OSU or Indiana on the road. I'd give them a 30% chance against Minnesota, a 40% chance against Illinois, and a 45% chance against MSU. They haven't tested themselves away from Crisler, and it's going to show."
Ooook there tough guy .. wanna bet?
I don't think the importance of beating them in East Lansing during the 2010-2011 can be overstated. We were 12-9, 1-6 in the Big Ten and had just lost 6 straight games. I think that was the moment when our guys finally bought into the idea that they could compete with the big names in the Big Ten.. msu wasn't even good that year, but it was still an important win
Since then, we have gone 49-15, 23-8 in the Big Ten. For those of you counting at home, that means that 76% of our games overall and 74% of our games in the Big Ten have resulted in W's for the good guys.
Frankly, don't see that clip slowing down much. Burke going after this year would be a huge loss, but from what I've seen from Walton, if he can be half as good as Burke, we'll be fine. Zak Irvin seems to be poised to have Glenn Robinson jump in the rankings, and by most accounts would be Indiana's Mr. Basketball this season if voted on today. Mark Donnal looks like a baller as well. I'm excited about the future of Michigan hoops, that's for damn sure.
That game has been the turning point in the program's history.
Coach Beilein was on the hot seat (because of the losing streak) but he hushed his doubters (including me) from that game on.
We qualified for the NCAAT and came within a missed basket of upsetting #1 overall seed Duke and getting to the Sweet 16.
Great post! John Beilein has been absolutely amazing for this program and deserves 5 coach of the year trophies imo. He is exceptional with the players and up front in his recruiting. I am extremely excited to talk about March and the tournament with the same interest and excitement I remember many years ago.
So you think UM runs through 30-0?
Not to derail the thread but what shady things in what capacity has Kentucky had? Calipari and the program are both under more scrutiny and watched by more eyes than any program in the country. The success Cal has had not only puttin guys in the league, but in the 1st Round makes me wonder why he'd risk it for anything shady. The Enes Kanter situation was a perfect example of him being held to a different standard because he's Calipari.
If I was 18 years old, and 1 guy offered me 50k to play a year at Michigan... and then Cal tells me I won't get paid anything, but if I do a 1 year interm i'll be a multimillionaire. Why risk recruiting w/ peanuts when you can sell em the candy bar?
Yep, the coach who had two Final Four appearences at two separate schools wiped off the books and one of the most sanctioned programs in college basketball history suddenly decided to go on the up and up when they united together.............
Not specifically saying he IS cheating. I live in Ky so I get the Big Blue crap constantly. I always tell them that if he cheats at UK then he's just a cheater because he doesn't have to. I was more speaking of the gray areas of AAU ball and the 5 star type players in general. UK has decades of history of cheating but this thread is more about shadiness in hoops then it is UK and the fact that Beilein doesn't get involved with that is refreshing. The motto in KY even for the mostly rational fans is that EVERY program cheats some. That's how they rationalize Calipari's past and their beloved SEC football. Remember when Michigan was getting elite talent here? How did that happen? That many superstars raise flags. We have an ethical coach that wins with good to great talent without cheating. What will everyone do if the SEC decides they need to be elite in hoops and compete with UK? What do you see happening then? They will cheat endlessly. No derailing the thread, we have a great coach who wins the right way.
You should live in KY and listen to diehards explain this away...it's comical. We all know OJ never got convicted of murder because the glove didn't fit but I'm fairly certain that (metaphorically speaking) Calipari has had blood on his gloves in the past. Now? Who knows yet...time will tell. Amazing that I am talking about blood on gloves and look up to see your finger gun above lol. UK wanted to win again much like the SEC commissioner towards football decided in early 2000's they were gonna win at all costs.
Me too my man. I've been telling all the local Ky boys that their SEC chest thumping is over now its time for hoops and the SEC ain't the big boys in that.
Calipari was the one that reported Camby to the NCAA, and the NCAA cleared Rose before changing their mind after the tournament was over. When were the last UK sanctions? 1988 w/ Eddie Sutton maybe?
Yep, just a coincidence. Calipari just has terrible luck.
Kentucky basketball is also one of only two basketball programs in history to be given the death penalty.
Allllllllllll just bad luck. I'm sure they both found Jesus when they teamed up and are all above board now.
Let me guess, you also believed Ohio State was innocent in football under Tressel?
Nothin about luck, just facts. He could have kept the Camby payments under wraps, i'm not sure why he would do that if he had a payment system implimented. Maybe throw Camby under the boss so the whole system doesn't get exposed?
If the NCAA never cleared Rose he obviously wouldn't have played, it's not like they suspended him & Calipari played him anyway.
Was the death penalty given during Eddie Sutton? I think that was around 1987-1988, even before the Fab 5.
I think finding 24 hour a day surveillance has made them find Jesus.
Tressel tried to lie to cover something up. Calipari didn't lie for Camby, and I think Rose was declared ineligible for a false SAT score. So I guess it could be said that Calipari got the fake to take the test, but I think the test was taken before Rose had ever declared for Memphis.
Too much time hating the SEC in this thread guys... I know they can be obnoxious, but we got to stop pretending like they're the evil empire and do all these terrible things that other coaches would never think of doing.
