but we played OSU when they didn't have Posey and Herron
East Lansing- A Drinking Town with a Football Problem
NFL gms don't say that about football recruits because they have to play in colege for three years as opposed to basketball. If I were to guess today, Pipkins, Bolden, and Kalis would all be first round draft picks.
We are college football
Not even worth posting now.
maybe James Ross as well
You should try reading my post again. I said MSU's D was good last year. What i said is that they weren't very very good which to me means they weren't elite. MSU's D wasn't anything special compared to Michigan's D. I expect the same to be true this year.
You can't really look at MSU playing Wisconsin twice and dismiss the fact that they played a mediocre FCS team and FAU who had one of the worst offenses in the country last year. It kind of balances out.
Overall the 2 defenses look pretty close on paper stat wise. UM scoring-6th, total d-17th and MSU scoring 10th, and total 6th.
But then look at who each played-- MSU played a FCS and 4 teams that won 3 or less games (these type teams dont move the ball much) and caught OSU without any playmakers with a true frosh making his second start. In contrast, UM played 12 teams that were Bowl eligible (all opponents except 1) and caught OSU loaded and BM with a little experiance.
Against BIG opponents MSU 20.33 pts and 317.33 yards a game.
Against BIG opponents UM 19.4pts and 300.9 yards a game.
Common opponents at common fields (We both played Minn at home, Iowa on the road and NW at Ryan field):
MSU 20.66 pts a game and 378 yards
UM 16 pts a game and 305.66 yards.......Same opponents same field.
Just the facts!!
If you want to use scoring defense, Michigan's NCAA stats beat MSU's.... conversation over.
If you want to go behind the main stat to secondary stats, MSU's B10 Regular season Conference Games Only various defensive stats on a PER GAME basis are not nearly as impressive as their full schedule per game stats. Even assuming the Wisco offense was good, MSU also got Indiana.
I think the average of Wisco's offense and Indiana's offense is probably around Purdue's offense.
Michigan did better than MSU in a number of categories of per game stats in B10 conference games. MSU had some higher overall numbers because their OOC had some really bad offenses.
MSU and UM had defenses that, on paper, were very comparable last year. MSU got a lot of love from their fans and the media because their cupcake-laden OOC made their numbers look really good. Wirthout the promotional benefit of stopping FAU from getting first downs and shutting down CMU, the hype around MSU's defense would not have gotten as high as it did.
These things have a way of working themselves out though.
Not that I know of. I just cruise this board on occasion and look for MSU-related threads...
'Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable'
- President John F. Kennedy
Understandable. Sometimes Michigan fans do that on the rcmb or bucknuts. But then they're immediately labeled obsessive by members of those two sites.
But don't worry about it. You're not obsessive. You're totally fine.
That picture is hilarious!
That pretty much describes me on tBB.
From the MSU board ...
"Sam Webb is a slappy fanboy disguised as a journalist. The fact he is employed by detnews shows what a sham reporting has become. His praise of a certain scUM QB commit is reminiscent of Jerry Sandusky's interest in at risk children of The Second Mile."
Honestly, the drivel out of MSU "persons" is at the same level as OSU. I truly hope this is not a student/alum, as this is an embarrassment to their "institution". Truly glad to be blessed with intelligence to stay out of MSU.

No way we curb stomp them. Dantonio will game plan and prep the team for Michigan all season long.
Its really hard to run a team out of the building when its by far the most important matchup of the year for them.
Honestly, I think it describes all of us o some degree.
Might want to check your spelling before commenting on intelligence and whatnot
It's truly. Sorry for being that guy.
Yes. We will curb stomp them.
Who is Woolfork?
Thanks (I think). Believe it or not, I'm actually interested in what you guys are thinking. Of course I'll stick up for my team but I'm not delusional. Besides, it's all in good fun. There are several UM guys on the MSU board and they certainly add value...
MSU should destroy Boise ... Boise lost 17 starters! You are essentially playing a JV squad for petes sake.
