Very interesting list.
National Director of Scouting & Recruiting Analyst
Taylor Lewan at No. 11. It will be interesting to see if he comes back considering he is projected that high. My gut tells me he comes back.
Thanks for passing that along Gerry!
If Lewan receives similar feedback from his sources at the end of the season, I think he should leave early.
1. Hankins at 2 is higher than I would want to take him at although I understand it's hard to come across big space eaters.
2. Lewan at 11 would all but guarantee that he leaves early.
3. Gholston dropping all the way to a late second means he would probably stay.
4. Denard for a late third seems like a good value pick to get potentially the biggest play-maker in the draft. Boom or bust special.
5. Bell would probably stay if he's a fourth rounder.
6. Adams for a late fifth would be an absolute steal. I know he's had a down year but I still think he's one of the most talented corners coming out this year.
7. I hope they're right with Kovacs and Roh getting drafted.

Lewan's decision will really decide how our season goes, IMO. we'd either be breaking in four new OL and have a shaky LT for our new QB, or we'd have the best bookend tackles in the Big Ten and could give Devin Gardner some much needed comfort in the pocket.
He really enjoys the college life, doesn't need the money, and he looks up to Jake Long, who had a similar grade after his junior year but stayed and became known as one of the best LTs in college history.
I'm not optimistic, but I think our offense with Lewan and Gardner could be amazing. Added with our always-improving defense, I would feel great about the team next year.
I think he leaves unfortunately. I just hope he goes to the Lions so that one Michigan LT will replace another. Even though the lions need a LB or CB more.
FYI, ESPN just flashed Mel Kiper's big board, and Lewan is 9th on that.
I doubt Lewan leaves, he seems like he loves Michigan too much to leave.
I honestly think if he comes back that he can be a top-5 pick and maybe on the upper end of that. I know it's only a handfult of draftpicks but thats several million dollars in your rookie contract.
He should stay, he's a big durable man that gets better all the time. He still has some penalties & mental lapses that will drive coaches crazy, that is about his only weakness if you ask me.
I agree. He is a great leader/advocate of the University of Michigan and I feel he has so much pride in the University that he will come back and try to win a Big Ten Championship. Similar to Matt Barkley last year, Lewan is a fun kid that enjoys college so much and I just can't see him leaving early. That being said, theres a lot of money to turn down so I wouldn't be surprised if he left.
One thing that jumped out at me were the 3 Texas A&M players in the top 13. Sherman may not have been the greatest game coach, but he sure knew how to develop prospects, especially linemen....
If by interesting you mean god awful.... then I agree.
I'm actually expecting all 3 of them to stay. The two OT were solid under Sherman but Moore has really improved this year under Sumlin. He was a 3/4 OLB and now is going to be a top 5 pick as 4/3 DE, he's been extremely impressive. I would go as far to say as he's been as impressive as Von was at A&M.
Go Blue & Gig Em'!
I haven't caught too many Aggie games but I do remember Von Miller. If Moore is anything close to him, he should be a great pick up for whichever team decides to take him. And if all three stay, geez, A&M could be a legitimate National contender next year with Manziel back and Sumlin in his second year.....
If Lewan is a top 10 pick...he should go. I would be sad to see him go, but damn...you don't pass up that chance.
I agree with you, but many top 10 picks have passed up that chance because the NFL will always be around, college eligibility won't.
I think Texas A&M will be extremely lucky if one of three returns. Too much $$$, and too big of injury risk.
Yeah but one false step your senior year and the NFL won't be around anymore..
Geno Smith at #6 and Matt Barkley at #16? And Jonathan Hankins at #2? I call shenanigans.
That's always been the way I've looked at it too. I certainly don't begrudge anyone that chooses to stick around, but there's no way I would in Lewan's situation. Especially if he's projected to go in the upper half of the first round, I think the risk/reward favors leaving early. You can get injured in the NFL, too, but by that point, you've already received your signing bonus, and you're guaranteed a full year of salary when placed on IR. So even if you suffer a career-ending injury as a rookie, you're still going to make a significant amount of money, and will be set for life if you're smart.
I'd love to see Hankins come back, but if he truly is going to go in the top 5 he has to go.....DAMN IT>.
Damontre has already stated he's coming back and has Von's parents as influences telling him to stay. As far as the OT's I could see 1 of 2 leaving but I doubt both leave.
We all know that Rich Rod mishandled the Jonathan Hankins situation.
However, check out Eric Fisher (of Central Michigan University) who is projected at #24.
He's from Michigan and was ranked as a 2 star on Scout.com.
Interesting that Michigan could have had 3 1st round picks in this year's draft.

Time will tell. I think during the season everyone is staying.
Texas A&M could be one that gets lucky. It's very rare, but it can happen.
Just me, for the record, if I'm an athlete that is a first round selection in the NFL or NBA, I'm going everytime.
Gerald Hodges as the 8th best OLB? Yeah, OK.
I don't follow the draft stuff as much as I used to, but where did Lewan come from? Did UM fans expect him to do this well going into this season?
Yes we expected Lewan to be a first rounder.
