About being worried how the coaches are still recruiting more players, yet they have expired all of the available spots. Don't worry, the coaches know the situations with the players and will not be turning away any lower rated commits or anything like that. Odds are a few 5th year seniors will opt for the draft or some freshman won't make it through camp.
This isn't a big discussion piece, just a FYI post. Don't worry about oversigning for this year, the coaches will not allow that. They will be accepting commitments up to 24 total, not anymore though unless there are addition openings from transfers or career ending injuries.
Who is accusing us of over-signing?

I ain't worried. The coaches know way more about managing their own roster than anybody here. They're also privy to info about individual players that is just not released to the public. If a spot opens up, the coaches will know about it farther in advance than anybody else.

Are they allowed to run over the allotment under any circumstances? Or, is this a clear cut limit, i.e. no more than xx?

I just read that thread and didn't interpret it as people questioning the recruiting strategy.
Not questioning it, just people wondering about whether the coaches will decline commitments from players, or where they will have the room to take more players.
85 is the hard cap, a team cannot go over that limit under any circumstances.
I would hope not they are very accustomed to over signing.
...and why the new thread? Would have done perfect in the OG thread you referenced
