First let me say I'm looking forward to "The Game" possibly getting back to the Bo and Woody era. But I was thinking, If the other schools in the BIG aren't going to pony up and start paying coaches/assistants, the gap between us is going to grow, and will OSU/UM blowing out the rest of the conference 3 years from now be good for the BIG?
Doesn't matter to me as long as we're in Pasadena or the Natty
"Those Who Stay...Will be Champions"
I want a gap...just not a big one
The bigger the gap, the less respected we all are.
"The U" says different when they stomped everyone in Conf. USA and then embarrassed everyone else as well
Frankly, there is no gap at this point. Let's be honest. We lost 5 games last year. We haven't won the Big 10 in 8/9 years. We had the RR debacle.
If you're talking about recruiting, ok. I get it. Both teams have been impressive. But this talk about OSU and Michigan separating themselves from the rest of the Big 10 is embarrassing.
Let's actually separate ourselves before talking about it.
Due is right. But by nature of tbe question......as long as both teams are legitimate title contenders it wont matter. Both teams in bcs bowls every year
well,I'm not taking a shot at ya here, but OSU has been a pretty consistent BCS bowl participant over the last decade and I am assuming with your recruiting you will be back to where you were Pre-RR....We need to get 2 BCS bowls every year for our conference and I don't see much coming out of the other BIG teams to lead me to believe they will be taking one of those two spots.....
Especially with the move to a playoff system. Whoever wins the B1G will almost certainly have a chance to win a national title.
With the way defense is emphasized in the B1G, I don't really see much of a gap going forward. Just look at this list of B1G champs. Note how many different teams have won it over the last 30 years (~1983).
As long as the other teams in the conference aren't complete pushovers then the BIG should be fine. Rivalries are always a good thing and so is national publicity.
this....... i would like both teams to dominate the rest of the big ten with whisky or neb or psu every few years having top 5 teams.....the big ten needs to start winning bowls any 6-6 team gets into a bowl but our lower level 6-6 teams must start winning those games too for us to gain the respect....
I think our respect went down the toilet because our top teams did not win bowls often enough. In 2006 we were ranked 1&2 then got destroyed in bowl games. The B1G has repeatedly shown poorly on Jan 1st.
Separation in recruiting only matters if something will be done with the recruits. Lets talk of this in three years.
Agree the BIG doesn't show well in bowl games. Even in years when the BIG team has the better team, do you think it is because we travel a fairly long distance and play a "local" team? Maybe we can talk the Rose Bowl into alternating from Cali to Indy every other year..lol
Big Ten makes $ and until we put paying $ like the SEC the Only teams with a chance to have Big sucess long term is Ohio St followed by Michigan.
Wisconsin, Sparty,Penn St, Nebraska and NW all need to step it up!
The others at best could devolp into 2tier schools Ill,pur, ind, minn, iowa
Minnesota should beg Mason to comeback talk about stupid moves!
Iowa fell off the great run they had.
Well, the 'gap' certainly explains why Michigan and Ohio State keep going to the Rose Bowl every year...

Gap in recruiting? Yes .... Michigan and OSU will not be caught by the rest of the B10.
Gap in rose bowl appearances? No. However, as Michigan and OSU continue with top-5/10 classes, this will become apparent.
MSU can laugh .... but your program is not going to catch Michigan or OSU. Your brief rise is over. So .... toot your somewhere else ...

That must be why Michigan State is in the Rose Bowl every year, good point
@ a Sparty talking about going to the Rose Bowl.
We should all . Remember ... Sparty "coaches up" better than anyone in the world.
Well, Wisconsin has had a great run, no question. But without fat head, I wonder if that run will continue.
Also, that Wisky run has come during Michigan's down period. Will be interesting to see if that keeps up.
Gosh, i hate to sound like a baby. but. it would help if we could take 28+ recruits every year like the sec does.
Either you push NCAA to make its rules on recruiting logical and ethical or we start doing the same things they do. I can't believe NCAA has allowed sec to screw so many kids over.
We aim a little higher than the Rose Bowl....But all of you in East Lansing keep the Rose Bowl dream alive.....Maybe one day.
says the person whose team last went to Pasadena in 1989
Maybe Indiana fans will chirp in next LOL. Smh @ sparty
