How? Auburn having a bigger fanbase than Notre Dame is borderline laughable. I'm sorry.
Gringo Mafia Sergeant at Arms - 5 time POTW
Yeah I saw that too and was like That is definitely not right.
Unreal....did anyone check that site for legitimacy.
I'm looking on it right now, it doesn't look very reliable, especially since I can't even find a college football section and it looks setup by a 10th grader.
Ya it's a joke. Why would ESPN put that up during a game? Especially from a website like that?
It's almost as if even they knew it was a joke.
Like most things related to football, Auburn paid someone off.
It's stupid. Here is a similar attempt to estimate fanbases done by one columnist/reporter at the NYT about a year ago. It is equally unscientific, so take it with a huge grain of salt, but I would trust it over something from Sportales. IMO the two most reliable indicators are average TV ratings in nationally televised games and average merchandise sales (over say a 3-5 year period for both). No way is Auburn in the top five based on those two criteria.
1. Ohio State
3. Penn State
4. Notre Dame
As usual ESPN just makes ish up.
Exactly. Auburn wouldn't be in the top 30.
This .. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ .. Is just another reason why alot of us have ardent respect for your fanbase. Seems to me, because of no sources, this is all speculation.
I heard it two weeks ago over and over on the satellite sports updates. "Auburn has transcript changed for Memphis football player." Surely the fella doing the updates didn't just make it up. I'm sure all those other problems that landed you guys on probation had no legs either. The most delusional fanbase is definitely AUBURN
LOL at using sportales as a source.
11 National Titles | 42 Conference Titles | 3 Heisman Winners | 78 All-Americans | 37 College Hall of Fame Members
I am pretty sure the man doing the updates has a pretty good source, probably more than one to announce it on the College Sports Nation channel. Would you agree?
I believe that channel is somehow intertwined with 247 sports, they probably don't have much of an idea about anything that's why we are all here.
Well, any bandwagon Auburn fans from 2010 are bailing like mad now.
