Denard Robinson has to make plays, we all know that. A lot of people think Alabama will sell out early to stop the run. I don't think so. Alabama will play contain but our defensive backs have always been good at diagnosing plays and sniffing out the run. We don't get a lot of sacks playing a 3-4, but we do get good push up the middle with our nosetackle, leaving outside linebackers to set up the edge and force ball carriers into middle linebackers and defensive backs. The mantra will be that no one, and I mean no one, over pursues the qtrback so that will in itself cut down on sacks. Our linebackers are all in the 230-260 lb range and our corners are 200-220 lb range. I think the key will be our offense. If we move the ball constistantly our oline will dominate this game by the second half. We can be had on a big play or two breaking in a few defensive backs but we have generally been very disciplined across the board.
Do I think we win? Of course I do because I really feel at this time we just have the better team but the better team doesn't always win. I think Michigan needs turnovers and without them their in a world of trouble. The game will be closer than most Bama fans think but I do think we win 24-13.
Not trying to start a flame war, I just tried to illustrate my team from my eyes and you do the same.
I think I speak for the Michigan fanbase when I say that I'm sick of these threads. There have been about 5-6 of the almost identical thread for the last couple days.
At least I can agree with the OP on this one and he is actually very reasonable.
Well so what? The game is Saturday and after that no Alabama fan will or should be on your message board. It's the same banter you will get when Ohio st week, Michigan st week, or anyone you play. It's casual fun and if you don't want to be a part of the fun then so be it. If any Michigan fans want to break down what you guys do good or plans to stop what we do good I'd like to know with predictions.
Yeah, but there are just so many threads on this topic and they always lead to "Bama will win by 50 at least!"
Everyone has delusional fans, Michigan has their fare share as does Alabama. I'm sitting here in the middle of hurricane issac and there is nothing I'd rather talk about right now than college football.
Well the strength of our offense last year was the running game. Including Denard we had two 1000 yard rushers. Our OL will be very good but I still don't expect us to run the ball down Bama's throat. Denard will need to make plays with his arm to get first downs. He doesn't need to throw for 300 yards but he needs to be effecient and not turn the ball over. If Denard can go like 18 for 28 for like 220 yards and 2 TDs with 0 pics Michigan will have a great shot at winning this game.
On Defense, Mattison and Hoke stress stopping the run. They will do everything in their power to stop the run. I expect to see a lot of run blitzes on first and second down. Mattison will make Bama go the whole field, meaning we won't give up the big plays. Last year we were very good defensively in the red zone, so Bama could have a tough time scoring TDs.
Willy you hit the nail on the head and that is what I'm most worried about. We moved the ball great on nearly everyone last year. 8 yards here, 12 yards there, up and down the field but we have always had trouble putting it in the end zone, especially throwing the ball. It is irrational of me to think that will change this year as well because we were sluggish in the red zone on poor opponents as well as good.
He seems respectful and isn't like Scooter or USMCG trying to start a flame war. I think this game is a really bad matchup for us in our personnel with having an inexperienced DL and OL is a strength of your team.
We are college football
What worries me is that our offense won't be able to move the ball and keep going 3 and out. Our D could hold Bama to field goals in the first half and keep us in the game but if our O can't keep the time of possession around even those field goals will turn into TDs in the second half as our D wears down and Bama will run away with the game then.
Worst case scenario for us :
South Carolina Gamecocks Comp Att Yds Pct Y/A Sack YdsL TD Int Rating
Stephen Garcia 17 20 201 85.0 10.1 1 5 3 1 208.9
2010 breaking in new starters after winning championship. 35-21 SC. Same year we beat sparty 49-7 in Cap One bowl.
TY for that BTW
Haha loved that game and made me feel good about last year. I swear their qtr backs were scared to go in the game after we broke up cousins and then his backup. The 3rd stringer got hurt to but he tuffed it out. I know they tied for conference champs but I always thought they got a lot of breaks that year and were overrated, fwiw.
I've got the score 23-14 right now for Bama... i'm putting the pressure on the secondary, they need to be involved in a game-changing play & not let anything behind them for Michigan to pull off the upset. Alabama is going to get first downs w/ their line, but Michigan can't let them convert those 1st downs into touchdowns.
I think the Offense matches up well against Bama defense...and our pass defense will be fine. Only thing I'm worried about is our run defense. Will be a good close game.
"Those Who Stay...Will be Champions"
That's the only thing that really has me worried this weekend. Sometimes your best D is keeping your O on the field. Obviously if we can't sustain any drives it just puts a lot of pressure on our D, which will inevitably get worn down as the game goes on. If their running game gets going, it only makes play action that much tougher...
We have some new starters in some key positions on defense and that's what scares me. Not saying a lot of these guys don't have a decent amount of experience because most have played key roles last year but you never know how they will gel together. I do like the fact though, coach has seemed awfully pleased this summer for the most part and I guess if he's happy I should be to?

I kind of get that same feeling from Hoke this summer. Bama is definetly the better team on paper but Hoke has me getting my hopes up some.
I dont even read these treads anymore.....all the hype and speculation regurgitates the same trite opinions and ideas. Here is the answer, any number of several scenarios could and will occur, either in its full entirety or partially, and then certain scenarios will occur which no one has predicted or talked about relentlessly.
