18/36 for 214 yards, 3TDs, 1 pick.
He looked tentative at times in the first half and overthrew several receivers but he made some huge plays to keep us in the game against an excellent defense and ran for some key first downs when we needed them most.
He missed some easy throws, but the WRs dropped a few also. He showed up when we needed him most though. If he hits Gallon on that one play where Gallon was running down the field all alone, it's a TD, but he overthrew him.
I'd say B -.

B since he missed some easy throws. I'm excited to see what he can do next year after a whole offseason of working with the offensive personnel in place.
I like B- . he made some good/great throws but at the same time he missed some easy ones. He also made some bad decisions but for a guy that hasn't played much at QB I will give him a pass.
I have very high expectations of him and the team next year. He has to be better next year and I believe he will be.
Definitely not his best game. He had some good runs and extended some plays but he was very disappointing on several misthrows.

He missed alot of easy throws today I thought.
Man he missed a couple of open receivers, and also seemed to heave a few up for grabs. I'm being tough on my grade cuz we lost, dammit.

I'll give him a C. Some ups and some downs. But if he had made a few of the easy throws that he missed we probably would have scored a good few points more.
I don't think he really had a good rhythm all day, which had to do with the constant mixing up of formations and personnel of course, but he also just didn't seem on his game the way I would have hoped with over a month to prepare.
I agree with most, I am on the B-/C+ borderline. Showed a lot of good things and a number of things where he needs to continue to improve on.
I'd probably say a B/B-.
He's a gritty, competitive kid, and I love to see that in a quarterback. He really stepped it up and made plays with his arm and his legs when the game was on the line, and that's key for a quarterback.
That being said, I think he struggled a bit with his pocket presence, and wasn't as accurate as he needed to be in this game.
B from me because of those extra few first downs with his legs. Devin played okay but like everyone else, I am very excited about him playing qb next year.
Question: Is next year or 2014 Devin's final year of eligibility? I know he was recently granted a medical redshirt, I'm just not sure if that means we get him for another two years, or just one?
He has NOT been granted the medical redshirt yet, it's just expected that he will be at this point. That would mean he's here for 2013 and 2014.
As for the grade, C-. I was exceptionally disappointed with basically the entire team yesterday. Sloppy, unfocused, undisciplined. Gardner was brutal for probably 80% of the game, with the other 20% being the scoring drives in the second half. Just not acceptable to miss the throws he missed, as often as he did.
And to top it all off, despite calling a good game overall, Borges goes back to the godforsaken I-form handoff to Vincent Smith, and creates a highlight play that will be replayed over and over and over again for the next year and beyond.
Brutal game. Should've been a win. Very disappointed with the execution by the players.
Technically he "passed" in this game, so a C+ at the worst. But he also didn't set the curve if you know what I mean....so a final grade of B- is appropriate because there is still a ton of room for improvement.
I think he was very up and down. As has been mentioned before, Gardner hasn't played much QB and I think that he might be learning to deal with the pressure of starting at QB, especially in the big games. I think nervous energy led to overthrows. That quick flick TD on the rollout was very nice, though. As for his running, I still remember him fighting for a first down despite being hit well short.
I say C. Some of those throws are 'must make' throws. You simply cannot win without them.
I still think, with a whole season in the system, he could be fantastic next year.
Made some bad decisions and some mis throws but overall not awful. The recievers helped him and hurt him so that is a wash.
The worst play was the last, What was he looking back for? throw the ball!!! the entire team looked like they were lost on that last play!
On another note.....
I cant wait until next year!
We need safety and CB so bad!! getting beat time after time with deep balls was frikn killing me!! I almost puked on that last TD they threw!!
B. Had some great throws, like the 2 second half TDs, missed some easy ones like the field throw to Gallon.
Would've been a B- but his scrambling was pretty good, considering the athletic defense SC had.

B-. He missed some really easy throws (1 of which may have ended in a touchdown or at least serious yards since the cornerback slipped). With that said, he also made some pretty crazy good plays to get 1st downs. He has a good arm and he'll be a very good QB in the next 2 years. While he only had an b- game in my opinion, it still showcased his very high potential.

Man, you're tougher on them than I was.....and I'm a football coach. I didn't see much lack of focus or undisciplined play. Yea, ok - we got a couple facemask penalties. It happens all the time on the LOS. Our guys got called for it, unfortunately.
The Clowney Highlight reel was a blown assignment by the TE. We've had those happen too often (think of the 4th and short play vs State last year. Another blown TE assignment). I don't agree with lining up Smith in the I, but obviously no other FB-TB tandem has stepped up to the plate.
I think Gardner should be given a ton of credit. He didn't take any snaps in pre-season camp and nearly half the year. It's easy to say "the coaches should have kept him at QB. Look what happened". Well, hindight....20/20.
Note: Potential exists for an A season this fall.

This. He's got some things to work on but as for overall performance I'll say B-. He'll be great next year when he has an entire offseason to work on the QB position.
