I don't think he recruits at all.
That's what I thought....Never saw his name come up involving recruiting
I can only assume Borges mistakenly thought we had a lead, a large one, and he was trying to protect it... I'm not ready to say "fire" but I'm certainly not happy. I need a day to let this digest. I could change my mind.
Btw, how on earth do the experts have Lewan rated so high?
An OSU fan here, was scratching my head on all the 3rd and shorts that he would just run right up the middle with Smith/Denard. Everyone knew that was coming. I thought he could've been a lot more creative granted how electric of a runner Denard can be. I understand your frustration. Great game though. Cya next year.
One of the ironies is that what *nearly* bailed out Borges this year was the emergence of a guy that was converted to WR under *his* auspices. I mean everyone goes on about how Borges finds it much easier to work with Gardner and so forth but at the same time Borges himself was completely incapable of recognizing that fact over the 20 months preceding Denard's injury?
(As an aside, that also may have cost us the Nebraska game and if we had won that, we would have been off to the Big Ten championship game *regardless* of today's outcome.)
This talk about Borges needing his own guys etc. isn't that taken ad absurdum by the fact that this was Urban Meyer's first year and he came in and delivered an unbeaten season, yes aided by a weak schedule but that included us as an opponent? It's not going to get any easier in the future, is it?
Before today we were #67 in total offense, #95 in passing offense, #48 in scoring offense. That's just really unacceptable even completely ignoring today's stupidity, even over the course of the entire season we're a middle-of-the-pack offense in an offensively challenged conference and that in spite of being able to feast on the likes of Purdue, Minny, Illinois and Iowa. Wasn't OSU's defense supposed to be "soft" and their weakness? So many questions, so many bad answers.
Buckeye fan here, I was a bit bewildered by the play calling also, two big plays but it just seemed that Michigan never got in sync and put together any type of sustained drives. And was the call to got for it on 4th down around mid field Hokes call or Borgues call, I thought that was the start of your second half issues.
Honestly I'm just flat out sick of loosing to osu. I'm 23 so I'm young. I know in the 90's we beat them like they have beaten us in the last decade but its hard to remember. My memory goes back to Woodson in 1996 and that's it. I was born and raised 50 min from Columbus and have taken crap my whole life and I'm real tired of it.
No, but he is a terrible play caller. Been away most of the dayy hanging out with my family in New Orleans, but boy even my mom asked me why the heck he kept tryin to run it up the middle when the previous two times the results were horrendous.
Borges = Piss in the wind.
I need time to digest the loss, and review that second half again. However, my initial reaction is for Hoke to have a long chat with Borges, and understand how to innovate the offensive play calling next year. How do you want to catch 2013 recruits i.e. DG and LT with horrendous play calling like we saw in the 2nd half?
OSU recruiting will be very tough from here on out. UM better step it up ... and fast.
“Those who stay will be champions”

There's a generation of fans - and recruits - growing up who only know us as a team that usually loses to OSU, that's bad for the rivalry but much worse for the program.
Yea, Ohio is going to be a force in the Big Ten for years to come.
I agree with you 100%. Having Denard out there on those calls most if not every ohio defensive player was going to focus on him. Why not do a play action and short route. Some of the most moronic play calling ever.
Let's say Chizik gets canned, and most expect that to happen and we still do not land Green. Today's bs play calling does not help. And it's clear we have a QB in Gardner who can sling the ball. The next few weeks are going to be frustrating.
Look ... I am not one to believe a single game changes the recruiting landscape .... However, many elite recruits were at this game today ('13 and '14), and we gave OSU a recruiting feather for their cap. I have read nothing but recruit praise for OSU after the game. J. Jones was at the game, and seemed to have a great time. He was a recruit I once through we could land, but ND and OSU are kicking our arse.
I am not sounding the fire alarm .... well ... maybe I am. UM needs to step it up ... and fast. You cannot recruit elite talent with the crap that was displayed in the 2nd half. We can pretend all we want to, but OSU is about to kick it into high gear and leave the B10 in the dust. Fact.

My concern/fear is that we fall into this comfortable trap of 8-4/9-3 again, enough to always have enough excuses but with the gap to OSU ever widening. Meyer is a top notch recruiter, a high end coach and you don't need a lot of fantasy to imagine how he will bring elite talent to Columbus, the NC rings on his hand speak their own language. The reality of the situation is that we will have to be a program that can and will win 10+ most years if we want to compete with that.
If you are not smart enough to find a way to win this game with both DG and D-Rob on your squad then you are not smart enough to win a championship. Al Borges has to go!! He is no different than Greg Madison was with R-Rod. If Hoke cannot see that Al Borges is not the person for this job at this point you have to start to wonder if Hoke is the right Head Coach for this team.
I think the criticism of Borges today is fair and warranted. I've been pretty critical of him at certain points this year, including today.
The one thing I'll say in his defense is that he's being asked to coordinate an offensive scheme that's completely different than what he's used to. Hoke may be partly responsible for putting Borges in a position that he's not comfortable in.
I think it's reasonable for Borges to be on the hot seat entering the 2013 season, but I don't think it'd be fair to fire him at this point.
What's baffling is the offense was having success in the first half. Were they driving consistently? Not really, but they managed to make some plays with Denard and Devin in. And it just seemed the offense went away from that completely and made some baffling calls on key downs (ie 3rd and short with Vincent Smith up the middle).

Why would they fire Borges when the Big House sells out every game? This is a business and as long as they are making tons of money they have no reason to change things.
1 Championship in 63 years
8 Years ago since last big ten Championship
111,000 + at every home game
No need to ever do anything different. David Brandon said a few years ago that the goal of the football program isn’t to win national championships. This is the sad reality of Michigan Football.
Thanks for Jimbo Delaney it's the entire Big Ten
Completely agree with you. Hopefully for Michigan's sake, those types of mistakes won't happen anymore once Borges is running his system.
I dont buy the system excuses. Running it up the gut repeatedly when you have demonstrated you cant do it is the same no matter what system. Running play fakes that arent set up by other plays doesnt matter what system you run. Its not a system prblem, its an incompetence problem.
I agree with buckeye fan here....and is the inept performance by Borges a detriment to our recruiting? You have to think so, because if I think so, then coaches who actually talk to these top prospects will negatively recruiting in this aspect.
There was a lot of run plays that were ran up the middle when the fb (hopkins) just stopped at the line of scrimmage instead of running full speed to go and block someone. But when you bring in denard and you dont throw 1 single pass with him, i would load the box up too. Why not do some sweep passes when denard is in there. He wouldnt have to throw far and if he couldnt throw then why bother putting him in at qb at all. Borges made some bad play calls, but lets not put his head on the chopping block just yet, lets give it 1-2 more years and lets see what he is gonna do with the pro style offense that he is gonna bring in and it has to be some what good cause look at what devin had done when he is playing the entire game at qb.
