I talked briefly with 2013 commitment WR Da'Mario Jones this morning about Signing Day and what he's been feeling since sending in his LOI.
"It feels like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders to be honest. Now it's time to get going and put myself in a position to find the field. The coaches don't play favorites and I know my opportunities will be based on what I do with the time I have."
If you remember, Da'Mario's commitment came at a time when Michigan was still recruiting Crete-Monee (Ill.) WR Laquon Treadwell. Some fans questioned whether or not the offer and subsequent commitment of Jones pushed Treadwell away. Jones doesn't really care.
"I never worried about that stuff at all. Some people might use that type of thing as motivation, but I just don't listen. I feel like I can compete with anybody and that's what I plan to do at Michigan."
Jones will enroll at Michigan on June 30th.
Treadwell went for cash, Jones went for love of the school and the game. Give me Jones any day.
Couldn't sum it up any better.
O come on, that's just ridiculously bitter. Michigan is signing a fantastic class and you can't help but drink from the rumor pond?
Maybe Ole Miss recruited him harder. Maybe his former teammate and friend had a fantastic experience his freshman year and convinced him it was a good place to be. Maybe the Michigan and Ole Miss' staffs have different recruiting philosophies that lent to them getting Treadwell and the Michigan staff being fine with Jones. There are hundreds of legitimate reasons they could have landed him instead so don't whine.
Treadwell is clearly a prima dona. Whether or not there was a transaction associated with his decision to head down to Oxford, MS, he likely would have upset the carefully constructed Team chemistry that Hoke, et al. have worked hard to create in A2.
I like D'Mario's combination of skill and love of Michigan way more than Treadwell's obvious on field talents.
Maybe you're lost?
Maybe you didn't follow the Treadwell recruitment as long as we did?
One thing we can agree on tho .. your 'Maybe the Michigan and Ole Miss' staffs have different recruiting philosophies that led to them getting Treadwell and the Michigan staff being fine with Jones' post is dead on. Strategies couldn't be any different. So congrats on that point.
I followed it just as much as anyone else. All I know, random internet guy with no information whatsoever who saw one picture of $300 and is jumping to conclusions, is that anything you say about cash is 100% fresh brewed speculation and the focus today should be on the players we got.
Look at the pattern of SMU's rise and downfall. It's literally the exact same scenario. Poor-to-middling southern team suddenly gets an influx of the nation's most elite players, including many with practically 0 ties to the school.
Sure, there isn't any proof yet, but it's a pretty safe bet that there's something shady going down in Oxford.
I agree that it's certainly possible, I am very skeptical as well. But what you said is a lot better than what the other guy said. There MIGHT be something shady going on, but is it really worth high jacking a thread about one of our commits to flat out assert that a kid didn't choose us because he's getting paid? I just didn't think so.
Look, you've only posted 13 times, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt about not really knowing me.
First, I am "the other guy." If you know me, you'd know that my posting style involves a lot of sarcasm, but for the most part, I'm a very reasonable poster. In addition, I'm a lawyer, and if you've ever seen me on tBB, you'd know that I don't believe in anything without solid evidence.
That first part of my first post was mainly a joke, and I think that's how most people took it. Rather than write out the entire clarification I just posted, I went with the quick and easy post because it was funny.
A program has to start somewhere..It absolutely looks fishy but to make accusations without any evidence is childish..Ole Miss is a beautiful campus and has been in on top talent but didnt close..this year they have..Nkemdiche or whatever has his brother there,Treadwell has a teammate and Ole Miss is there with Okie St..And he will see the field right away,Collins the safety is staying in state, Tunsil isnt going far from home..so lets not jump to conclusions until there is reason to..sometimes a school has a run and this may just be their moment.
