Really sucks to lose Blake, but this does not mean the end of the season. It's nowhere near the loss we suffered when Troy Woolfolk went down 2 years ago and we had to basically replace him with a WR and a RS Soph JT Floyd that had never really played.
Floyd isn't a star, but he is a known commodity and veteran with a lot of starts. Avery is in his 3rd year and has played in pretty much every game, so while his athleticism limits him (and makes him better in the Nickel package), he knows the defense. Raymon Taylor played some last year and has solid athleticism. Delonte Hollowell hasn't seen a lot of time at corner, but has consistently made plays on special teams to show he can shed blocks and tackle in space. T-Rich is probably too small to contribute in the B1G season, but he's a highly skilled corner with good speed. As a 4th option that's not too bad.
Air Force is going to throw the ball around 10 times total just to try to keep the defense honest, so should be limited work for whoever steps in this week. UMass had 115 total yards (59 rushing, 56 passing) in their opener against UConn, so we shouldn't be too lost without Blake back there for that game either. That gives the new starter 3 weeks of practice and 2 not-as-tough games before heading to South Bend, which is about the best we can ask for in this situation.
This is a huge loss that will not be felt until the ND game. Of our '13 recruits, who is slated to play defensive back short-side? Is Lewis the only one?
After watching the game again, I hope Michigan pursues LM III, Muhammad, and any other elite D looking at us still. We need to get bigger, stronger, and faster. I am not as worried about the O-line, as the '12 and '13 classes look strong. With the elite OL '14 recruits looking at us, this should fix itself.

Sucks to hear. Any updates on Lewan?
I think your right about recruiting bigger and faster D linemen. And as for Countess sorry he is hurt but next man up.
I've been away sulking. That is terrible if true. Damn I love me some 18.
They got beat up and whooped. It sucks but it is what it is.
What a loss. At the same time, as has been said before it's next man up.
Looking at what we'll face this year, it's nowhere near as intimidating as it was last year from the WR position. There's no Michael Floyd, AJ Jenkins, Devier Posey, Marvin McNutt, or msu's receiving group.
The only guy who SEEMS to be a unanimous choice even for All B1G is Abbraderis and we don't play Wisconsin. Other than that, I've seen Keenan Davis occasionally and some guy from Purdue once.
JT Floyd and Avery have played a lot of football at Michigan. While not the lockdown corners we were hoping Countess would be, they're certainly serviceable and experienced. There's no doubt that Taylor is the most athletic guy at the CB position, and he's going to be thrown into the fire now, actually probably starting across from Floyd. We'll see how he responds.

Agree. Avery has played a good amount of football over the past couple years. I'm not too worried about the loss of Countess due to the fact that there is depth and experience.
Now if this happened two years ago, when there was no depth......

Here's hoping for a speedy/full recovery. Hate to see this happen at anytime, but first game makes it seem worse.
