you said that you thought OSU would still finish higher than Michigan.
WHY YOU SAYING THAT MAN! YOU TRYING TO PISS ME OFF!
Honestly though, who do you see them finishing with that would make them catapult up the rankings?
They are in a good spot with 5* Foster - but that one will be a battle for them. Pitt stands a great chance and he is looking like a long, drawn out kid that will take all his OV's and could wind up anywhere.
They have next to no real shot at Ty Isaac. Adam Brenneman is ALL Penn State and will drop for them any day now, which is why it was STUPID for Urban to not jump into the Jake Butt mix.
Who are all these really highly rated players they are going to land to help them have the #1 class?
No way to know exactly how this class will finish for either team, but we really couldn't have done any better than we have so far. They certainly seem to be in on some highly talented players and have a great set of four commits so far, but there's a long way to go to a full class and we're a lot closer to it.
I'd suspect that if they end up ranked above us we will have pretty comparable average quality in our classes but theirs will just be bigger because of attrition in year 1 under Meyer.
It's still a longggg way till NSD and Urban Meyer is a heck of a recruiter. We've definitely kicked off to a great start (10 out of 11 commits in the Rivals top 200 is unheard of) but there's plenty of time to go. OSU has a great in-state class lined up and has a good number of leans. Jaylon Smith is probably the top guy left but there are numerous 5 stars/high four stars that could drop for them.
In the end, I think we'll both be in the mix for a top 5 class if we keep this up. Alabama should have a ridiculous haul for #1 (they're looking very good with the top two prospects in the country) and OSU should have a great class as well. I'm not sure I agree that those are far and away the top two, though. I think Alabama has a clear #1 on the way but FSU and USC should be right there for #2 as well.
'Bama will definitely have the #1 class when all is said and done. Florida will be up there as well.
Just don't see it for tOSU. They won't get Brennemen, Isaac, Pocic, or Treadwell. They have a shot at Foster, but that one is tough.
Their best bet for a 5* is Jaylon Smith- and he's not a lock. We'll see if he goes to OSU after his bro rides the pine all year and then transfers.
Before I jump into your original question, just b/c I think Ohio State and Alabama will finish with the nation's top-two classes, doesn't mean I think they will have better football teams down the road. It's all about addressing recruiting needs for your respective team and developing kids while they're on campus. Michigan is doing the first thing, and I have no doubt the staff with their track records will do the second. As you all know (I've said it here and on Twitter), I think both Michigan and Ohio State are on the uptick and I think both are going to be on par with the upper-echelon teams in the SEC real quick.
Regarding this recruiting class, I think Urban Meyer is the best recruiter in the country, and to top it off, anytime there is a coaching change at a major football power, it is always rewarding on the recruiting trail. You saw the way the Buckeyes closed in 2012. I think they'll do even better this year. It doesn't take long for Urban to get in on a prospect and all of a sudden his school is the favorite. It just happens. The man is a great recruiter.
I do think Brady Hoke is fantastic too. And his coaching staff does a great job of triple-teaming recruits. If you look at Michigan's top prospects, they send three coaches after him. For example, EJ Levenberry. He's hearing from Coach Montgomery, Coach Mattison and Hoke.
I could end up being wrong, but for now I'm going to stick with my prediction.
P.S. This has nothing to do with your post but I've been getting a little static elsewhere. I do find it comical some folks love to call me a Notre Dame homer. I'm a fan of people, not a fan of teams when it comes to college sports. I like to see good people do well. If you don't think I'm going to be rooting for guys like Terry Richardson, Matt Godin, Shane Morris, Kyle Bosch and David Dawson on Saturdays, you're crazy. The thing is, I'll also be rooting for guys like Josiah Price and Jon Reschke as well. You guys that read these message boards are the elite fan of your respective schools! For me, I just like seeing good things happen to good people, and hopefully a great game too.
It's been awesome being on this board this week and seeing the excitement. Congrats to your program!

thanks for the response Steve.
If those idiots want to call you a Notre Dame homer, there loss. You one of the very best in the recruiting game in my strong not so humble opinion. So f#ck 'em all if they talk shit bout you.
+1 to you sir. It would have been +2 but you didn't say Michigan would be the top class.
Go Blue & Gig Em'!
Steve, you are doing a great job. You also seem to be very annoying to the MSU fans when you have to give them bad news on recruiting, so that is something else in your favor!
I agree as far as stars go, tOSU could nab Foster, Smith and few other top level prospects. Even if we both have solid classes theirs might have a possibility of having a higher rank.
Steve -Great job this weekend. +1
Excellent response Steve. Keep up the good work, your appreciated around here my man!
Thanks for all your work keeping us updated this weekend, Steve! We all appreciate your work. This was a crazy weekend and you did a fantastic job staying on top of everything!
Spoken like a true Notre Dame homer.
haha just kidding. Someone had to.
You guys are doing GREAT work.
Ya, some of those gentlemen think I'm a Michigan homer. Go figure.
It's time we start BELIEVING that it doesn't matter who Urban Frank recruits or how high his recruiting class is ranked. We have Hoke & Co and it's clear they have a mission and recruit guys who will help achieve that mission. This isn't the same hollow sentiment you're hearing over and over from Sparty. We aren't tying to combat 4 and 5 star talent with a 4star, a bunch of 3 stars, and a few guys "stolen" from the MAC. We're getting the same caliber 4 and 5 stars. We have arguably one of the most competent staffs in the country. We're stocking the most important element of the offense - the line - with beasts. Forget what Urban is doing. Forget what is written and predicted about his class. We aren't trying to keep pace with him.
We recruit what we need and nothing more. OSU nor any other fan base should define that.
Urban is a great recruiter but his staff has nothing on ours. He also neglects needs like oline which will come back to haunt him. Over/under he quits in 2 years?
See that is what I figured would occur when he was hired. He runs a completely different offense, so at least on offense he for the most part will be recruiting completely different guys (like Jalin Marshall compared to Shane Morris if Marshall plays QB). On defense there is some overlap, but I trust Mattison and the rest of the staff to make sure that we always have guys good enough to do what is asked of them. I think it should create some good battles with both teams recruiting well.

Thanks Steve. Much appreciated. Thanks for your honesty & your work. As a UM fan it was a heck of a weekend with all the recruits that gave their verbal to the UM staff.
What we need to focus is taking care of business first, which means winning the B1G & sticking it to ohio for the years to come and restore the in state issue with Sparty by beating them in Ann Arbor later this year. That is the focus from here on out.
OSU has 3 head coaches on their staff. He got 3 top Oline prospects last year. He has offered quite a few this year too! I have seen some dumb posts on this board but I think this tops them all!!
By three top OL, you mean scraps right?
I mean seriously, two 4 stars and one 3 star???
These are not top players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are SCRAPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Signed, Bucknuts people from last weekend.
Kind of like Mr taco who isn't even a starter at his high school.
Just read his twitter, troll.
This is Michigan, fergodsakes.
Taco is a 4 star, what do you call that 3* OL then?
You yourself called him a top OLine prospect?????????????
