  • No surprise. That's some big losses already though - if Dawson leaves, it'll be pretty damn bad for MSU.

  • Since Spartans don't use the impartial undersclassmen advisory system I'll be intrigued to see if Izzos personal research and advice led to him advising Harris to leave. As far as I understand it Izzos exhaustive research has coincidentally brought forth advice to return on every case so far. Izzos sources don't seem to promote early entry for some reason that escapes me.

lol Harris left because he realized that staying at MSU won't guarantee him a Final Four.

You mean serving Tom Izzo's best interests don't always match that of the players? Couldn't possibly be that.

  • Dawson, Valentine, Costello, Ellis, Kaminsky, and Schilling.

    Not exactly Murderers Row.

I actually think they'll be relatively decent with that crew. I think Valentine will take a huge step up, and getting the PG recruit Nairn, they might be better than it would look at first glance. Put Trice in there as well. If all 3 leave Michigan, add Horford to that, Sparty might very well have a better roster next year.

  • Ya idk why people are laughing at MSU and next year. Sounds like we are loosing Nic, GR3, Mitch, Horford, and Morgan. That is a lot to replace. With our losses I think it puts us with MSU, OSU, and Neb all looking up at Wisc. (that is if we lose the big three which looks likely).

I posted this on the community thread but I'll post it here. For the sake of discussion, I'll assume that McGary returns.

    2015
    Walton (sophomore)
    Irvin (sophomore)
    LeVert (junior)
    Chatman (freshman)
    McGary (junior)

Bench: Albecht (junior), Donnal (redshirt freshman), and DJ Wilson (freshman).

That team would have a similar make-up to our 2013 team.

    2013
    Burke (sophomore)
    Stauskas (freshman)
    Hardaway (junior)
    Robinson (freshman)
    Morgan (redshirt junior)

Bench: McGary (freshman), Horford (redshirt sophomore), Levert (freshman), and Albrecht (freshman).

2013 Michigan was a lay-up (or tip-in) shy of forcing a 4 way tie for the Big Ten. That's the same team that finished National Runner-Up.

Given how well Michigan's guards improve from freshman to sophomore season, I see reason for optimism with Walton and Irvin. And we know that LeVert is a hard-worker who is self-motivated so I expect him to live up to lofty pre-season expectations.

    McGary returning is the key.

I do agree, Mitch is the key.

We have seen huge jumps for players going into their soph years (Burke, Nic, LeVert). Regardless of Mitch coming back. I think LeVert is the MVP of the team next year hands down. To expect Walton to make a Burke type jump is tough, Burke is a once in a generation type player IMO. As long as Walton's game continues to grow i will be happy. I really hope we can see Irvin become more of a complete player like Nic did year two. We started to see Irvin drive a little more at the end of the year. I'm excited to see the growth of the team. Mitch and Nic are players you just can't replace for 2014-15 IMO. GR3 I think is easily replaceable.

I really hope GR3 can make it into the first round. Having success in the NBA is only a good thing for Michigan.

You don't think Doyle plays next year Frank?? If mitch comes back hopefully he can sit, if not he's gotta play.

  • Lex,

This may be semantics but Burke is not a once-in-a-generation player. That designation belongs to superstars like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis, etc. Burke is a great talent and an incredibly fortunate get for Michgian. He's a program changer but not a once-in-a-generation type player.

Also, I'm not expecting Walton to make the same jump that Burke made. I am, however, expecting him to be somewhere between sophomore Darius Morris and sophomore Burke. I just hope he too doesn't bolt after 2 seasons. I want to see him play at Michigan for 3 seasons.

If Mitch comes back, Doyle will redshirt imo. But if Mtich goes, we may not have the luxury of redshirting Doyle. That's why Mitch is our most important player for next season and beyond. His decision has implications about how the roster will be managed going forward.

    Good Stuff Frank,

With Burke I meant once in a generation type player for the program. I should have been more clear about that, sorry.

    pray please Mitch, come back!
