Brady spoke this morning at the DAC (Detroit Athletic Club) and I was in attendance. This was the first time that I've gotten to meet coach Hoke, and what an awesome person to be leading the program. You can tell that he just bleeds Michigan football, and is solely altruistic for the program and the kids that represent the university. He's such a throw back to Bo, and cant wait to see what's in store in the future. Here are some highlights that I recall that are paraphrased:
The speaker who gave his introduction applauded team 132 and the 11 wins and Sugar Bowl victory, and the first thing that coach Hoke said was that the team didnt meet their goals of a big ten championship, and they still have a long way to go.
He noted that 20-24 scholarships were available for the 2013 class.
I asked him when Charles retires, if he had interest to join the program and coach the secondary and recruit the best corners in the nation, if he would be open to it.....he paused for a few seconds and said "ummmmmmm, you never know." I dont think its been something hes been thinking about, but maybe I got that idea to simmer a bit.
Someone asked if he saw the recruiting tactics that Urban implemented regarding the college majors for the players at each university, and he responded "we dont recruit negatively, I'm not going to mention the 30 arrests and some felonies in 5 years that happened at Florida."
Hoke mentioned that 95 majors offered at Michigan are rated top ten nationally
He mentioned that the effort was lacking in yesterdays practice (Wednesday), so the strength/condition coach ordered 99 red shirts overnight, and the team was wearing them this morning for today's practice.
He's excited about the Alabama game to start the season and that its going to be "fun." He has not started preparing for them yet, and didnt even watch any of the national championship game.
He reiterated that nothing is more important then what the program does then the Ohio game.

Wow, this is a really cool post. Thanks for all the info. The scholarship number is very interesting.
I love the DAC, great place. Also at this point I would rather have Curt Mallory than Charles Woodson coaching the DBs because Mallory has experience coaching them and knows the recruiting tactics.
I absolutely love the quote about Meyer. And the red shirts for the team.
I love this man.
The scholly numbers he mentioned are not that hard to see. We have 18 for certain now, which means we only need 4 more from attrition and non-returning fifth years to get to 22.
Agree on the really cool post, though. I will swing by with some upvotes for the OP as soon as I reload. Thanks!

I'm going to go change my mock class to 24.
I think the right range is 22-25 and, like this year, whether we stretch our way to the top end of the range will depend on which elite prospects are available at the end and whether we can land them. If not, a couple of the borderline fifth years get offered an extra year. But, IMO, 22 is the bottom end of the range rather than the top.

Go Blue and Go Titans!
This is called an apophasis. "To not mention by mentioning it."

I think it's called getting Hoke'd.
I would say bring on Woodson as a co-coach. Learn under Mallory and let him recruit the top Dbs in the nation. If you were a DB and had Woodson come into your house and say I want to coach you. Instant commit.
Maybe he will go to Eastern to team up with Hart and English and after Hart and Woodson get some experience coaching they will join the Michigan staff later.
I actually have a hard time believing he would say something like that.
Bucknuts is melting down about what Hoke said in regard to the felonies haha.
I got banned from there
I just checked you ban history, you've been busy.
Haha this board was dead so I went and had a little fun on tRCMB and Bucknuts
The funny thing was, this was a paraphrased comment, not a quote, from what I have read. Are we even sure Hoke said this?
I don't know the size of the event but feel like it would've been reported by a lot more people if he did. It doesn't sound like something he would say.

My point exactly.
I should have prefaced earlier, but yes some quotes were paraphrased (instead of fellonies, I think he said arrests first, and didn't refer to a previous program and actually said Florida....he of course said this comment with a smirk). And no reporters were there unless they are members of the DAC or invited by a member, this was a closed event and this is a first hand account which you won't hear from any reporter!
Cool, do you mind editing the quote in your original post?
Yep, just did....thanks!
