Do the coaches really think that Speight is better than Cornwell? Cornwell is beasting right now.
Stealing Sparty's recruits and owning them on the field since 1898
Apparently the answer is yes.
Maybe the they wanted a recruiter over a blue chipper in this class?

Agreed. It is pretty obvious who they liked better.
Seeing as they offered one, yes.
I am not sure why people still harp on this. Basically, stop looking at stars on recruiting sites. Yes, they matter; but matter far less than what the coaches see.
Trust the coaches.
I am holding all judgement till camps this summer. Curious to see how Speight fairs against elite competition. If he does not fair well ..... uh oh.

I'll hold my judgement until his time at Michigan is over.
I think we will get a glimpse of what the coaches are seeing this summer, during the camp circuits.
Not everyone camps. Dymonte and Poggi didn't attend camps.
The Bellomy injury could have them changing their stance on just one QB a class.
Well ... he is going to th Army one right? I suspect he will attend. You do not draft QBs at Michigan and they sit out the summer camps.
No. If you are taking 1 QB per class, that means you have 4 scholarship QBs on your roster. That is more than enough.
How would another QB in the '14 class help them for this fall? I think they are ok. The numbers screw them with this fall. Now, if Shane struggles to learn quickly ... then we will have a problem. I would get Shane some playing time very quickly in the Central Michigan game.
Yeah this is getting pretty old.
Everyone gets it.
Cornwell is very good, and is ranked high on sites. The coaches decided to offer Speight over Cornwell after seeing him throw in person. What good does constantly bringing this up do?
Peppers must have not liked his OSU visit that much.
We are the only school listed as "warmer"
I see kurelic posted that the Spartans are back in it for Drake Harris.. Any info on that?
I really want to know if he watched the Final Four game while in Columbus
Heh? What a strange, odd statement These Nike 7 on 7 camps are next to meaningless. The Speight/Cornwell debate won't be decided for another 3 to 5 years.
Harris will be taking an overnight unofficial visit to MSU in the near future.
Speight has already said that he probably won't be hitting the camp circuit very hard this summer, which is totally fine with me. I'd MUCH rather have him spending his weekends this summer out in SoCal with Steve Clarkson. He will receive much better instruction from Clarkson than he will from any of the coaches at these 7 on 7 camps.
I thought I read he wasn't hitting Camps that hard. But my point was we shouldn't look to camps to validate a prospect, especially one the coaches have personally witness play both on tape and in person.
The coaches have no issue with their commits not camping why would us fans? I thought this topic was dead anyway? We are after a lot if great players, can we talk about them? Nicholson? Ways? Hand? Peppers? Juju?

Yes. This. I cannot believe there are people still thinking about this. Gardner, Bellomy, Morris, Speight. That's all you need to worry about. This position is under control.... it's an embarrassment of riches, really.
Nobody on this board can define the word regression.... but it sure gets used a lot.
Just one thing to all the people freaking out about the attention Cornwell is getting:
He didn't win his Elite 11 regional. In fact, nobody won the Dallas regional. That means that not only did Cornwell not win, but it wasn't a case of some other QB going off and having an amazing weekend (as in Devante Kincade being the only reason Shane didn't win the Dallas regional last year). Now, I'm not saying Trent Dilfer and the Elite 11 coaches are oracles when it comes to evaluating QBs, but just think about this - in a regional where nobody excelled at all, Cornwell couldn't even separate himself from the pack enough to earn a ticket to the finals.
On the other hand, remember that we got a QB last year who won MVP of his home regional handily, beating out other top talents at QB like Trubisky and Zaire. In the words of John Paul Jones, Wilton Speight "has not yet begun to fight." Clearly, Cornwell is not some all-world superstar who's leaps and bounds above everyone else - the Dallas Elite 11 regional showed that. Wilton Speight is the guy our coaches picked, and they have yet to steer us wrong. Have faith, and trust in the coaching staff that has positioned us as either the leaders or co-leaders for at least 4 different 5-star prospects.
I am a NOT arguing he should recieve his training from a 7 on 7 camp. I would like to see how he matches up against other competition. This is a fair statement.
