lol, I just assumed CMXI was making a weird joke
According to twitter, we also offered JuJu Smith today, 5* S out of Long Beach
I agree. Cornwell clearly has a significantly stronger arm, but Speight is much more accurate. Also, in the highlights I watched he seemed to hold the ball too low and take a long time to get it out of his hand (Tebow-ish...which might be expected as he uses the same QB coach apparently).
I wonder if after taking a kid who has a monster arm with accuracy issues (Shane) they wanted a kid who can "come in from the bullpen" and get the ball where it needs to be. We'll see how things work out with him.
As a side note, does anybody know if he knows or has any connection to any of the big-time recruits out of Virginia next year? That would be a great bonus.
I'm not going to live this one down for a while...
Interesting tweet from Da'Shawn Hand

I'm taking a break from the recruiting process for a while. I will not be contacting any coaches until march. I need time to focus on school
Baseless speculation: this bodes well for the schools he's already high on; and you've got to think his clear care for and focus on academics bodes well for us.
It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Does he actually mean he's going to shut it down, or does he just mean he won't reach out at all? I feel like, as a college coach, this is a nightmare. Do you reach out to him? Do you let him be? It's a minefield either way.
Smart kid. No reason to rush it at this point. And I think definitely it helps the schools that are already high on his list.
For sure. I mean, he's been so methodical with his recruitment, I have to imagine he's talked individually with coaches letting them know if its cool to send him things or not, but if he hasn't...god, such decisions. Actually, it's gotta be tough even if he has talked to them individually, there's got to be the little part of your brain that says "WHAT IF THIS IS A TEST," either way.
I'm guessing it's the coaches wanting his accuracy in case Morris has issues in college and him being in Virginia where Da'shawn Hand is.

Stealing Sparty's recruits and owning them on the field since 1898
You cannot just leave him alone. I know he asked for it, but you can bet that other schools are reaching out to him and you don't want him to forget about you.
Also, he did say "I will not be contacting any coaches" - the coaches will still contact him IMO.
If he stays #1, this will be the best #1 recruitment to follow since.. ever. He actually has a good head on his shoulders and knows what's important in life. Really hope we get him because he's an elite player who really fits the mold of the type of recruit that Hoke has been bringing in.
I would take this as a good thing having listened to Hoke's podium session today. Iirc he said he wasn't in favor of the earlier contact period and that kids need to be kids. Now Hand is tweeting that he needs to do the things kids should be doing, going to school. jmo
I think he commits sooner than later. He seems the type to want to shut down the process once he knows.

Pistons fans were all gun ho when we drafted Darko #2 in that draft ('03 or '04). Just because someone who gets paid to make these decisions doesnt mean they're always right....I think Speight is another Darko, in the sense that he is not the best player that we could have gotten. But unlike Darko, I dont think Speight will be a bust....I just think he will be John Navarre 2.0 which is awesome when you can see of your OL, but sucks if your OL and RB's dont pass block, pick up blitzes, or the opposing teams secondary shut down all of your throwing options and the pocket is collapsing, so you have to be mobile and use your legs...that is the issue hear IMO.
He runs a 4.7. What do you expect? Denard speed?
...second time you've posted this sentiment today, so I guess you're not joking. As SuhOwnsYou correctly points out, he runs a 4.7. If you watch his highlight tape, which I'll helpfully link below, you'll see him do the following:
Escape pressure in the pocket to complete a pass: 0:16, 0:20,1:07, 1:53, 2:51, 2:59, 4:32, 4:56, 6:15
Throw effectively on the run: 0:20, 1:01, 1:07, 1:53, 2:01, 2:28, 2:51, 2:59, 3:51, 4:32, 4:49, 4:56, 5:38, 6:15
Break a big run on an option: 1:31
Score from 15 yards out on a QB draw: 4:42
And none of that is even counting all the times he stands in there and completes an accurate pass with defenders in his face about to hit him, which is at least half of the plays not listed above.
There are plenty of things to knock Speight for, but his mobility? His ability to perform under pressure from DLs? Calling him Navarre 2.0? All of that is just wildly inaccurate as a matter of fact, not opinion. The only way I can fathom anyone questioning his mobility is if they look at his basic measurables and say "Oh, he's tall and white, must be slow" and end the inquiry there.
how awesome would It be for one of us to be able to just sit down in the coaches room and listen to what they have to say about all the recruits and why they like them? To hear why the coaches like speight more then anyone else.
When I die I want to come back as a fly that sits on the wall in the coaches office. This fly wont die after 3 years or however long a fly lives it will live forever just chillin rackin up info.
Someone you don't have a club about lol.
Who was excited about Darko??
Next week when we play Sparty who do you think we go with? Devin or Denard?
I'll hang up and listen
