Not surprised if this is true. I was told a couple weeks back that there's no chance that he doesn't commit to Michigan.
11 National Titles | 42 Conference Titles | 3 Heisman Winners | 78 All-Americans | 37 College Hall of Fame Members
I really hate writers that do that if he really did hear this from a good source.
What do you expect, it is an Ohio writer ruining an announcement for an Ohio kid about to commit to Michigan.
Fwiw I believe the writer is very close to the family.
Now wasn't he suppose to be a family friend?
That is even more reason to keep your mouth shut. This is no blockbuster surprise...why ruin the kids announcement?
That doesn't make it ok...
I think he's talking in terms of reliability
Yeah I agree.
Makes it even worse if he his. Unless the family let him release the article, which I have a hard time believing that.

Not really a family friend if he's breaking it. If it wasn't Michigan he was committing to he probably wouldn't of done it.
I'm not sure. It will all come out. We really have no idea at this point.
Coaches seem to be discouraging early commits...
I think they want to avoid the Texas problem - early commits that are surpassed by their peers who mature as upperclassmen.
Hence, our coaches want to see most of our players prove themselves as juniors.

Is this based on actual information or just a wild guess/statement?
No, interviews by Tremendous have shown that coaches have discouraged '14 guys from making early commitments.
Parrker Westphal said he was thinking about committing but the coaches talked him out of it so that he could wait, take more visits, and make sure that he's got what he wants.
Of course Ferns is about 6'3" 235 already with great athleticism. I would be surprised if he gets passed on this staff's target list.
Ferns seems like he is in the mold of Royce and Gedeon... Gedeon seems a little more productive but all 3 are tremendous athletes with really good frames... Not worried about Royce being 215lbs, he should be 240lbs in a blink of an eye and so should both Ferns and Gedeon... Hope Ferns is Blue soon
Makes sense. It's already hard enough to accurately predict how recruits will do in college, if the recruiting game keeps speeding up, it'll just get harder and harder.
Personally he reminds me of Jake Ryan and I think he will play the Sam as well. Looks like a guy who can but his Hand in the ground or stand up. Already 235 as a soph, real big boy
I'd love to see him play the SAM at 250 of solid muscle in college. He certainly looks like he's got the frame to support that much weight without any loss in athleticism.
I ask because I remember reading Scout's post BBQ interview with Parker Westphal in which Hecklinski JOKINGLY suggested to the young man that it was too early to commit. Westphal had no plans to do so this soon anyway. It seems as though people have taken that particular snippet from the interview and have just decided to run with the meme that the coaches don't want kids committing this early. I don't recall reading anything else that suggests the coaches are actively discouraging '14 recruits to hold off on committing.

I feel bad for the Ferns family if they didn't want this released yet. Unfortunate that this then gets posted on every UM related website & message board.
There was a quick little Ferns tidbit posted this morning on Tremendous. It seems as though there are some academic issues surrounding pre med requirements and early enrollment that need to be hashed out before anything becomes "official"

Ohio is relentless in their distaste towards us. I cannot wait for Ferns to commit. He is an excellent prospect, great kid, and will lead team 135 recruiting efforts I hope.

Yeah the westphal interview I read stated he was no where near a decision but appreciated that coaches said relax take your time. Had he said I'm committing they would have said ,yes!
