Clint, Why The Mason Cole Drop

See he was a 96, but getting moved to a 94. Thought people said he was the best in the state of FL.

Probably the fact that he was projected as an OT for a while but all indications recently seem to show that he'll end up inside.

It was just other guys moving up. We still really like him.

Not that I'm saying that I necessarily think Smith is better than Cole, but Smith is still an absolute physical freak, that could account for some of the difference.

I know we all care about rankings, but I think it's important to remember that the 94 Mason Cole is the same 96 Mason Cole that committed back in February. He's an outstanding representation of the university and I'm excited for him to get on campus.

well said Fursty, well said. The rankings can get super complicated. We still like him just as much as before, it's just how things ended up working out.

And not to knock Smith (because I love Smith), but he's probably much closer to his ceiling physically than Cole. Depending on how they both develop, Cole easily could turn out as good or better.

He's still an awesome lineman, but we probably won't see him for a few years given the depth. I get sites mixed up sometimes, does 247 base rankings on NFL potential or college potential?

5-star means we think he can be a high draft choice. 4-star means we think he's going to be an excellent player at the next level and is college-ready (wont need a red-shirt year). Three-star is a guy we think will be a very good college player but might need a year or two to develop. So kind of a mixture of the two. Hope that helps out some Fursty.
