Campbell "Feels The Love" On Visit

Cass Tech quarterback Jayru Campbell made his first visit to Michigan today in four months. How did it go for the two-time state champion quarterback?

    Steve Lorenz

  • Any specific reason why Michigan hasn't offered him yet? Is he a Michigan lock if he does get offered?

    mounties999

  • Have they talked to him about their process for offering quarterbacks?

    RBWolverine

  • Michigan has and will continue to take quarterback recruiting at a slow pace. It's worked well for them so far.

I don't believe he'd be a Michigan lock, but they would be there somewhere at the end. Jayru is a good player and will have a lot of good offers to choose from.

Most importantly, welcome to the board. Glad to see you here.

    Steve Lorenz

  • Yup; if it wasn't today, it's something I believe Campbell is aware of now.

Considering how thorough we were with 2014 QBs, I wouldn't expect Campbell to get an offer anytime soon personally. Could be wrong though.

    It won't be anytime soon.

  • Campbell is definitely a developmental prospect. He, more than any of the 2014 QBs, needs junior game film to show the coaches.

I'll be amazed if he gets an offer before NSD 2014.

Agreed, I would expect a similar process as this year. Shane was the exception because of his talent and huge upside.

Thanks for the response and for the welcoming. Not to blow smoke up your *** but you're the reason I signed up. Keep up the excellent work!

As an aside, I was sad to see Speight chosen over O'Connor for the simple reason that O'Connor's from my hometown. Canada represent. :)

I can't think of many Canadian former players. Except I think Biakabutuka (?)

    Also Renaldo Sagesse...former DT.

    Alain Kashama...former DE

  • Oh gosh. I can deal with the 2015 players like Harris, Weber, Crawford, among some others, but for some reason talking about 2015 QBs is way too early for me. I don't even know any besides Campbell and that kid from Utah. Starts with a K.

  • How does Campbell's game compare to Kisher? Curious as we were not high on him.

Campbell's very raw right now. He's got all the potential in the world, it's just a matter of harnessing it. He's got a good arm, but struggles with consistency. If you asked him to put a ball on an exact spot 10 times, you'd get 7 great throws, 2 good throws, and 1 duck. He's got the size and the athleticism, but it's just a matter of developing as a passer, and we do have to keep in mind that the kid's only a sophomore.

He's shown some incredible things for how young he is, but he needs to keep developing so he isn't just potential. There's a marked difference in his footwork between freshman and sophomore year - he's much more precise, much cleaner with the footwork. There's still room for improvement, but he's clearly been working on the mechanics of his game. I have to imagine that he'll be in line for an offer if he continues to demonstrate improvement over the course of his junior year.

Haha, nono, I'm just a guy who grew up watching Detroit area stations and got a taste of the maize and blue. Been a fan since I could remember. Only football I play is in a rec flag football league here in Ottawa.
