Burke Up To #9 In Latest Mock Draft

  • CBSSports has released their latest NBA Mock Draft and Trey Burke has jumped all the way up to #9 on this list. GR3 is #26 and Tim Hardaway is #39. Strong showing for the Wolverines and something to keep your eye on as we start to reach the end of the season.

  • I'm betting they loved Trey's assists to turnover ratio in the games against Indiana and Ohio State. 16 assists to only 5 turnovers against quality competition.

I know it's not going to happen but i really really want Burke to stay. Having Walton to back him up next year would be incredible.

  • Also sound like Duke may soon offer SG Devin Booker a UM recruit.

  • Kind of surprised to see GRIII ahead of Deshaun Thomas in these mock drafts and rankings. Seems like they'd play the same position, but Thomas is much further along in being able to attack and create his own shot whereas Glenn isn't there yet? No question he has a ton of upside, which is what the NBA loves, but Thomas is only a year older and seems to be much further along?

You've basically touched on the reasoning for it. Robinson has a very high ceiling while Thomas is basically a finished product. Kind of flawed reasoning in some cases but I'd say it works out more than it doesn't. Someone will get a very solid NBA player in DeShaun Thomas. Draymond Green is playing very well off the bench in Golden State and Thomas is much more skilled than him.

Agree with this. The NBA is always going to look at what players do at the college level and whether they are just a contributor or a playmaker. The difference is that this can often be outweighed by the raw talent. Think of it this way. The NBA isn't drafting these players for next year, they're drafting them for 2016 or 2017. By then, who knows whether Deshaun Thomas is better than GR3. With the way GR3 is progressing, that gap could be closed a lot more even by the end of this season. No doubt Thomas is the better player right now, but GR3 has the potential to be amazing and a very good pro player.

This is somewhat of a forgone conclusion.

We'll have to beat Duke for Devin Booker just like Michigan beat Duke for Mitch McGary.

Btw, many Duke fans are annoyed that we won the McGary recruitment.

Duke will have a loaded team (PG Quinn Cook, SG Rasheed Sulaimon, SF Rodney Hood, SF/PF Jabari Parker, C Marshall Plumlee will be the starting 5).

But the weakness on the team is the C position. Marshall Plumlee (3rd brother) has not developed as well as hoped.

Booker is a 2014 recruit so unless you assume Parker is going to return after his freshman season, he probably wouldn't be there for Booker to join.

My post was about two separate things.

    1. Beating Duke for Booker (like in the McGary recruitment)

    2. Duke fans being upset about what could've been.

Ah alright, makes sense reading it back now. Yeah, would have been loaded with McGary.

Michigan has been following and recruiting Booker hard for a long time, but he has started to blow up and is now attracting major attention from a lot of programs like Duke. Michigan has a solid shot, but they're going to have to beat out the "big boys" to do it. Plus, it will probably be awhile before he commits so a lot could change.

Also, Booker's dad played at Missouri so they are in the mix as well.

Yup. It's going to be a battle for awhile until he starts narrowing things down.

  • So Thomas who are the main targets in '14 then? I know we lost out on Diop and Tate but who do you do think we have the best shot at getting? How many spots will be available you think?

-Booker and Trevon Blueitt are the two wing/SG prospects our coaches are pursuing, as far as I know.

-Vince Edwards is being recruited, but keeps cancelling visits to campus where he'd likely end up receiving an offer.

-Ricky Doyle out of Florida is being recruited, but hasn't been up on a visit yet.

-Austin Hatch reclassified to 2014, so he'll be in the class, but still uncertain if he'll be on the team or given a medical scholarship due to his injuries.

I believe Booker and Blueitt are the only 2 who have offers right now that aren't committed to another school.

UMHoops just put up a nice article on Edwards and his recruitment right now. Basically it says that Michigan will offer as soon as Edwards visits(Belien policy not to offer before a kid visits). Vince said he hasn't made it up to Michigan because of his parents work schedules but is going to try to get up in the offseason. His Dad said he wishes Michigan would offer before they made plans to get up to Michigan. Purdue is recruiting Vince the hardest.

I expect interest in Doyle to pick back up when he starts playing again. He has been out a while with a foot injury.

This is a pretty good breakdown. The big one that is missing from this list is AJ Turner. He's a "point guard" out of De La Salle (same school as Shane Morris). I put point guard in quotes because almost nobody believes he will play point guard in college. He's 6'6" and 180 lbs. Booker is definitely the big target in this class with the loss of Tate and Diop. They also have a few fallback options they're looking at like Sean Sellers and Darius Austin, but most of the recruiting is going to depend on what guys like Booker decide. Also, the recruiting may change if guys like GR3 and Hardaway decide to go pro. Could put a few more offers on the table.

Also, if you have any big recruiting questions, I suggest asking Mark Zakrajsek (@mgobluegr). He's our main basketball recruiting guy on the site.

  • What position do the Pistons need, and who do you think they will/should draft? If you could take anyone on that list, who would it be?
