Won't happen with O'Brien. He was ours if we wanted him, and we backed off.

unless we didnt want him because we didnt have a spot and now we have a spot.

I think not wanting O'Brien had more to do with his conditioning and senior season. Lots of reports out there that MSU backed off as well for similar reasons. I guess O'Brien was a little over-weight at the start of his senior football season and it showed on the field, because by most accounts he had a subpar senior season.

I wouldn't compare taking visits to sleeping around when you are engaged.

Ok, then going on dates with other women when you're engaged. Perfectly reasonable comparison. If you aren't ready, don't commit. If you feel you need to look around, then you aren't committed.

great point, and I have no doubt that Michigan coaches told Brown something along those lines.

Which is why I have no sympathy for him. He knew he was jeopardizing his spot by taking that visit and he took it anyway.

I never said sleeping around. I said date. It still does get to the point that you shouldn't commit until you feel ready.

I thought we were taking Brown as a TE, but if we were looking at him as a possible DE, Noah Spence is still available. Ifeadi Odenigbo hasn't announced a selection yet, either. Time to turn lemons into lemonade.

Those two haven't been considering us for a long time, and it would take a lot for us to get back in it with them.

  • Thats sad. But its kind of weird how he jumped into a visit with Oregon so quickly...

    Bm11

  • The Oregon site talks to the fact that Brown was excited with his recent turn and focus to the Offensive side of the ball and wanted to see what was out there

ESPN and Scout no longer have him as a commit, but rivals and 24/7 do. Battle of the recruiting sites!

They never said they were going to cut ties with him, they just aren't counting him as a commit

Yeah i completely understand, i was just adding on to what you said really not going against it. Worded it kind of weird so i understand the confusion.

As for the OP change the title to "Pharaoh Brown is no longer a Michigan commit" or something along those lines.

  • I don't have any inisight on the Michigan stance but I will say this, Oregon doesn't typically allow committed recruits to visit. If they do, it means they have told the Oregon staff something to lead them to believe they are not or are soft.

Brown isn't being entirely forthcoming on his end, but he had to at least reach out to Oregon on his own, and secondly convince them he was open to other schools. That doesn't mean he publicly de-committed, it's just something to think about.

I would guess if Michigan still wants him they won't cut ties, but we'll all get some more news soon I bet.

They say that all the time, then make exceptions each year. Last year it was DeAnthony Thomas

  • The great thing about UM is you don't want your commits visiting another school, but seem pretty happy when a player like Brionte Dunn decides to visit when he's commited, pretty hypocritical if you ask me.

We have a rule. That's the way it goes. If another school doesn't have a similar rule then it's their loss .. literally.

I dont know why you trolls cant seem to get it .. it's simple. If you're sure you want to attend a university and you have a scholly offer then commit. If you're NOT 100% sure that you want to attend that school, then DONT commit. It's not algebra.

I fail to see what's hypocritical about this. Hypocritical might be telling a commit they can't visit elsewhere but at the same time actively looking to replace him.

Despite your obvious trolling, I believe you have a point. However, in the world of recruiting you have to keep your team/program's best interest in mind. Our best interest is to not allow our COMMITS (defined as someone who is COMMITTED to you) to visit other schools. What Bri'Onte Dunn does is entirely up to him. If we send him cards, letters, emails, calls and he responds, that's his choice and we are just doing what we're supposed to do: recruit.

Exactly. If you don't like that your commits are still taking visits, take it up with your coach. Email him, call him, persuade him with $100 handshakes, IDGAF.

    No it's a horrible comparison.

First, we know our coaching staff has pressured kids to commit before they really wanted to. There really is no question about this, we have multiple recruits talking about that being the case. Even Richardson talked about how much that put him off.

Second, we're talking about 16, 17 and 18 year old kids man! Their thoughts and feelings change over time, they can be emotional beings who don't think every action all the way through... I think people simply forget that, and then for fans to jump on and treat them like absolute shit for seeing if they were making the right choice for the life. It's extremely disappointing to see from Michigan fans.

As a Mod of this board, I personally think you should be embarrassed saying stuff like "Too bad, so sad. Sorry bud, you screwed up." Stuff like that should be beneath you IMHO.

Wherever Brown ends up I wish him nothing but the best of luck except when he's playing Michigan. Hopefully he'll still end up in the winged helmet.
