Brady Hoke

  • I'm going to say something that some may consider stupid or obvious, but I've thought this for some time, and am going to deviate from my intention to make no more predictions. I think that 20 years from now Brady Hoke will go down as the best coach in Michigan history...and yes I understand the history. I can't think of any man better suited for the job he has. Personality, character, style, talent...he is the definition of what a Michigan Man is and I believe over the years he will recruit many more players and coaches with the same characteristics... and they will be Winners. He makes me even prouder to be a Michigan fan than I have always been.

Hoke is already 54, questionable if he can coach long enough to be GOAT coach at Michigan.

Aside from that, it's a VERY bold call. I think Coach Hoke is fantastic, and I have no doubts he has Michigan on the right track, and I know he's right for the job. But I just don't see how he passes Bo, Yost, and Carr (I do think he surpasses Lloyd in the end).

Hope I'm wrong though. Either way he's building something special in AA, I have no doubt.

  • Brady Hoke will no doubt go down as one of our best, but "Bo" is too iconic to surpass prolly unless him and Meyer have some absolute wars...and we win some Rose Bowls. Yost bringing in a lot of national championships...he's my #1 UM coach of all time right now. If Hoke can bring us 2 national titles...then I'll put him ahead of Carr and even with "Bo"

    +1

I agree. Although that's a very tall task to be in the same conversation as some of the greats Michigan has had, I have a ton of faith that Brady is going to make all of us very, very proud of the program.

Now all that said, those people from Ohio really seem smart! Specifically the ones on "CRAPPY-GATE" from the other site. After Cole committed yesterday, there was a thread talking about how Michigan has a "nice haul of OL, but aren't recruting well in other positions, so having all those OL recruits doesn't make a lot of sense". Man, they've been so spot on with predictions of the future, I really hope they get it wrong this time. I'm really nervous they may be on to something here....blahlocohuh

Well, we all know how well UUUUUUUUrbs is doing in OL recruiting right now...I'm sure their feeling about our "nice haul" might have them a little on edge.

I'd have to agree. In order for that to happen he'd need to win one NC and have a great career record to pass Kipke, Crisler, Oosterbaan, Carr, and Bo. Most people would say he'd need two NC to pass some of them which I would tend to agree with.
In most fans eyes I doubt he ever passes Bo. In wins and losses and in the bowl games I think he will pass up Bo, at least percentage wise. Will he pass Bo in the hearts of the fans? Possibly. Probably not. Bo had some great teams but they never could get over the top. I think Hoke will be a better big game coach then Bo, time will tell.
Hoke came to Michigan under similar circumstances as Bo did. They both took over the program in disarray. I'm looking forward to watching Hoke's career here at Michigan. I feel he is going to end up on the list of legendary coaches.

  • I like Hoke but he hasn't even won our division yet. This is ridiculously premature.

You need to ask yourself this. Canbhe be the greatest withoit the most wins or best win percentage/big games won? If that answer is yes, then I think he can. But if he is, it goes past on field production.

My original thought (and that's all it was) was that Hoke characteristics were so uniquely qualified to be the right person to lead the Michigan program in the "Michigan Way" meaning integrity, effort, family atmosphere, spirit etc. that I predict it will result in winning percentage, championships, beating Ohio, etc. If it doesn't then I've either misjudged Hoke or "The Michigan Way" is BS, and what we need to win is someone like Urban god forbid. Honestly do I believe he will achieve more than our past legends? I really don't know how to even make the comparison. It may be like asking who's better...Cazzie Russell, Chris Weber or Trey Burke? The answer can only be an opinion. It is more than statistics.

I like OP's optimism, but I've got to agree with jimtaco here. ing first couple seasons, he's been recruiting about as well as anyone in the country...but we're still only 2 years into his tenure here. Let's hold off on the GOAT talk for another 8 years or so, at least.

Meh. The OP said he was making a prediction and if you wait another 8 years then it really wouldn't be a prediction.

I don't think he will be the best coach Michigan has ever had but he will be in the top 5 when it's all said and done. I think he will win more BIG titles then Carr and at lest 1 NC. So he will easily pass Carr who at the end was really bad. Like Bo who brought Michigan football back Hoke has done the same and will always be remembered as doing that.

  • What nonsense and it's not Bo either, the best Michigan coach ever was Fielding Yost. Yost is responsible for six NCs we claim, he got Michigan Stadium built. The man is the single reason Michigan football is the brand it is today.

Ed: I apologise to Mr. Crisler, he introduced the Winged Helmet.

Had Bo at least won one NC he would have been higher on the list but the fact he didn't and lost a lot of Rose Bowls hurt him.

I think he'll win multiple national championships with the talent he's bringing in and the coaches he's surrounding himself with. I doubt he can be better than Yost. Yost is one of the best coaches in college football history.

Agreed, it's a shame that Yost doesn't get the respect he deserves when it comes to these conversations.
