I don't think his playcalling was bad at all. When Denard was in, we possessed the ball and took our shots down field and were grinding it out. When Bellomy came in, I would've done the exact same thing: throw short passes, run the ball, and try to keep the team in it as long as possible if there was any chance Denard was coming back in. He was relying on the defense to keep us in it until the 4th quarter. I think he did a great job, because this game should have been a blowout.

The borges myth is built on 2 guys....Cadillac Williams/Ronnie Brown. Other than that Al is well traveled OC who never sticks at one place. No one ever makes the attempt to keep him when other other teams might want him. I mean NO one was willing to pony up to keep his services.

His offenses get worse as he stays at places longer. Utterly predictable and also moonlight as a QB coach. Well the top 2 Qb's in the program both are below average throwers. I shudder to think what happens when he gets his hands on Morris next year.

I know he wont get fired, but I'm sick of giving him the whole these aren't his players routine. Guess what these aren't Greg Mattison's players on D either and he has done a great job making something out of them. Borges has done just the opposite. Sorry, his free pass is gone seeing as how his offense has been held without a TD in 3 of 8 games this season.

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for Coach Hoke to fire Al Borges.

We weren't helped at all by the receivers. They have to make some of those catches. But despite that, the offense is stagnant and predictable. Our personnel groups tip off defenses like a neon sign.

We don't even bother blocking LBs, even when we run a play right up the gut.
Williams is not a good blocker

It just pisses me off that we've taken a high scoring offense and turned it into this piece of garbage.

I don't think Borges needs to be fired, but something has to change with offense. It's looked pretty stagnant the last 2 weeks and I was a bit disappointed with some of the personnel calls that the coaches made. Bellomy looked like a deer in the headlights and Fitz wasn't getting it done. Would have liked to have seen Gardner and Rawls get more playing time.

I’m new here, and this is my first post. I don’t consider myself an expert, nor do I know more then even some of you, and I won’t comment much. But I have had feelings, or an opinion about this offense since last year. First of all I have no idea how good the O-Line, the back up QBs are, or the rest of the O-positions really are. You play the games to compare yourself. We’re not as good as Alabama, but better then Massachusetts.

But I have noticed that the coaches have sacrificed certain aspects of the offence for the sake of using Denard’s talents or lack of talents. Including, developing back up QBs, and the offense that would fit the talents of those individuals.

The problem with Denard, or with the our coaches!

Having Denard in the game minimizes the effects (almost entirely) of the running game. More so against a good defensive game plan. Fritz T. runs to many plays that go east or west, and gain very few yards. The only person who may benefit from this is Denard, when he fakes a handoff, and runs in a counter direction. Fritz is sacrificed for Denard, and he has been so affected by this (the punishment) that he is afraid to hit the hole hard, he will even miss a hole because he spends to much time changing direction, or slows himself up because he is trying to juke people. He is not a burner. He is really not big enough to receive this type of punishment (need bigger fast RBs). Last year, Michigan ran many more plays between tackles, going North or South. The East/West plays take to long time to develop. We aren’t going to be able to hold the blocks long enough, or there are to many to block. Michigan seems intent on wasting way to many plays, so they may set up something else. Denard!

They ( other defenses) wouldn’t be able to stop Denard, or the team if he was a good passer. He is not. As far as the passing game is concerned. There are not enough W.R.s running short quick routes. Use your T.E. s for some of your short passes. I would at this point forego almost entirely Fritz, and Smith, for a blocking RB, that can catch a short pass. Your not going to put Denard under center much, so leave him in the shot gun, and call a passing play on almost every down (4 of 5). There he can still run if and when the play is covered. That would keep them (defense) somewhat honest. Less running by Denard, therefore less chance of injury.

So everyone knows how to stop Michigan! What can we do about it? Pray that Denard doesn’t get hurt anymore, and pray that he passes the ball better.

When the coaches keep saying that the problem with the running game, is blocking, they aren’t being entirely honest. They can’t admit that the problem is fundamental to the type of offense they run.

There may be good reason for this. Lack of talent, time to learn, and practice other schemes, etc. But we might be several years away before we get the result that we want.
