Big Ten Tournament: Predictions

Mark, Steve and I predict the sure-to-be wild Big Ten Tournament, which gets underway tomorrow in Chicago.

  • UM v. OSU in the final. Book it.

Note: And while it kills be to say it, I think we lose to OSU in the final. We will be very tired. And we just seem to have a knack for losing close heartbreakers this season. Also, OSU doesn't beat themselves. You have to come out and beat them and I think we will just be too tired to do that (especially Trey Burke facing Aaron Craft's defense) after playing Wisconsin and IU.

  • Obviously UM runs thru this tourney and gets a #1 seed.

  • I love that our (potential) first three games will be three games that we should have won and want revenge.

I agree. I think this sets up nicely for Michigan. I know it will be Michigan's 3rd game in 3 days but I don't see Indiana knocking off Michigan for a 3rd time this year.

Auto bid to the tourney and the Big Ten tournament title. Lots of momentum going into the big dance.

  • I was very close to picking Michigan over Indiana, but I think people need to be careful about assuming they'll win just because the Hoosiers won the first two meetings. Yes, it's hard to beat a single team three times in a single season (especially a team as good as Michigan), but each game is different and winning or losing one of the games doesn't necessarily change or impact the result of the next game. I think a stronger argument is that they would be playing each other for the second time in less than a week. As we see consistently, it's very hard to beat a team twice in that scenario. Certainly, neither team is a bad pick to go deep in the B1G Tournament, but just something I wanted to mention. I ultimately went with IU just because of the wear Michigan will be under from back-to-back games with Penn State and Wisconsin (assuming they win).
